Let me say first, I have an M3 and I luv it. I've used this shotgun a lot. The too complicated issue has never come to fruition for myself. The only thing I dont like is it's a little long for my taste. I run mine with the pistol grip stock.

The M4 is gas operated and I consider that a plus. If your shooting from the hip the recoil system may fail to cycle (it does) Why am I shooting a shotgun from the hip? One word...jackrabbits It comes down to the gas operated system is more reliable and you dont need to worry about your shotshell load.

Next, is the chokes. You can use the M4 for any shotgun application because of the chokes. A big plus abviously. Also, the M4 is a bit lighter and smaller then its predecessors. It also has a rail on the top of the receiver for optics and I wont even mention the collapsable stock that can be purchased for it

I have shot a buddies M4 and like all Benelli semi autos they just work.

As i recall when i looked into this a while back.. M1 prices plus about $150 will get you an M2, then add about $150 more for the optional ComforTech upgrade, which according to reviews, has questionable results (some love it, some say no diff.)

        Pistol grip or standard?

OK, more fuel to the fire. Which do you prefer and why?

If your small, either one... PG maybe allows less shoulder recoil?
If your big and stout.. some find the PG does not allow enough recoil (rearward movement) and the benelli wont cycle, the SG needs to move.

The comfort tech comes standard on their M2 shotguns. It isn't available in a pistol grip stock.

Collapsable stock I'm pretty sure that's a no in CA.

I've never seen an M4 with screw in chokes but I guess there could be.

As I remember the M4 is weighs more than my M1's and M2

As far as reliability I see alot of gas guns puke as well as pumps and recoil.

Plus on the Remmy vs. Benelli recoil debate hands down the Benelli will run longer without parts, repairs, or maintenance.

End result I don't think you can go wrong with either the
            M2 or M4
I move slow but I make up for it by shooting poorly.

When I hit the lotto I'm only shooting factory.

I prefer pistol grip for comfort and control. Most people can shoulder a recoil operated system and be just fine.

              No guessing they do

I've never thought about PG because all my guns are standard. I'm open, but it may feel weird at first. Maybe I'm better off with standard grip so there's no difference in feel from my other combat shotguns. Sensible or over thinking?

So a gas system will always cycle. You don't want a inertia system to quite working if your leaning out from cover and having to shoot upside down or something.

Yeah I sound paranoid but, I want my gun to function all the time. That said, a pump action has less things to go wrong.

I've shot my Benelli upside down, sideways and have tried to get the thing to jam. It functions like a champ

There are pros and cons to a pistol grip. In many cases it's easier to manipulate and move around with a pistol grip, open doors, load and shoot one handed. If you are concerned about somebody grabing your gun and twisting it away from you a conventional stock gun is to your advantage.

With a Benelli recoil gun the conventional stock has a reputation for being more reliable.

There all good pick what you like and shoot the wheels off of it.

a collapsible stock on a Benelli M4 would make it an AW unless you pinned the stock

The M4 has chokes. The M1014 comes with a fixedHeavy barrel.

My M1014 weighs in at 8 pounds 7 ounces. Add just about 1 more pound for 9 rounds of Federal Tactical 00 Buck.

Is that an M1? If it is that's good to know. I can not afford a M4 right now.
