Trigger won't pull on my 870...Help?

So I field stripped my 870 today and popped out the trigger assembly to clean it/lube it a bit. I didn't take anything apart but while I was holding it, I accidently pulled the trigger (which scared the **** out of me because it was loud and almost took off one of my fingers). I cleaned the rest of it and put it back together, but now the trigger won't pull. The safety is OFF and everything else functions properly...but uh, the trigger doesn't move. WTF could I have done? I've cleaned my 870 multiple times and never had a problem

I am on dial up right now your pic will not load. The sear spring may have come off. Check that and if the sear is on cock the hammer back so in engages the sear. Put it back in and see if it will work.

If it does not work Call me at 231-690-0954 as I am up all night. Have the trigger palte assembly in you hand
and when you call

I guess it is late even for you guys on the wrong side of the country. I will be back in my shop tomorrow afternoon and on high speed so your pix will load. If the issue is not resloved then call the number I gave you so I can have you check a couple of other small issues, It is nothing serious and we will have that 870 back in duty in a couple minutes.

<>

Cock the hammer back into firing position (the one that dropped when you pulled the tigger)...test it by holding the hammer , pull tigger and see if it releases....put it back together. Also the shell carrier thingy has to be in the down position when you reset.

It appears from one one of your pics that the safety is actually on. The safety in the off position should be flush with the trigger guard on the right side, and it looks like yours is up a little. You may have a problem with the safety detent ball. Try pushing in the safety till it's flush and see if that works.

Don't know what the sear spring is but I am assuming it's the only spring I see. I'll try that today. I will be gone all day today but would like to call you today or tomorrow if thats okay. Thanks so much for the quick response!

JD McGuire from aiptactical.com.... you're a great asset to the shotgun world. You've taken time to help me with questions by e-mail and I've seen you offering assistance in other places. As I venture deeper into the world of 870's... I will remember you as a supplier! Thanks.

Thanks, but not sure what I did. Don't even know what the issue was but I would of bet money the guy would have fixed it today on his own, which he did. What happens so often with guns, or anything we are working on, is you get stumped. Laying it down and walking away is a good thing. Come back later and you look right at the project and see the problem. It also is a good way to prevent projects from smashing into walls.

Boy, isn't that the case?! So many times I've had a firearm apart and couldn't figure out something or other. The first time it happened (many years ago), I gave up in frustration and walked away and did something else. Finally, I went back to the firearm that I'd been frustrated with and almost immediately saw the problem and fixed it right away.

Since then, if I'm ever confused about something whenever I have a firearm apart, I just lay it down and walk away. Rarely do I not quickly figure out the problem once I return.
