Maybe because their budget can't take them to Benelli nirvana??

True wealth is time. Time to enjoy life.

Life's journey is not to arrive safely in a well preserved body, but rather to slide in sideways, totally worn out, shouting "holy schit...what a ride"!!

My 1st gun was a Winchester 1200 I bought 10 years ago for $120. It's still my duck gun today (cause I spend all my money on EBR instead of a new duck gun). All my friends shoot 870's, guess who kills more birds and clay pigeons.............. me and my Win. 1200. It's not the gun, it's the shooter.

As far as a bird gun goes i have to agree with youre assessment, i knock the crap out of doves with my grandads 1200 but i cant hit crap with anything else including my 500, but for home defense and SHTF i trust my 500 above all else.

Hm - a Mossberg or a Remington. I remember now - I had the lasagna.

I have tried both, but for me, I seem to shoot better with the Mossberg. Perhaps it just fits me better. I can also operate its pump a lot more easily than the Remingtons - no idea why 'cause the R's were much much nicer than my Big-5 M'500.

Mossberg is more lefty friendly. Pretty important if you are left handed.

I need to get my hands on a Mossberg to check out it ergonomics. I think the safety that is lefty friendly is a good thing.

My Mossy takes a beating and gives one too. I shoot dove and quail with it as well as clay's. It will F!!!! up a watermelon pretty good and scare the daylights out of Liberals. Never shot a 870. I'm sure they're nice too.

I own the rolls royce of shotguns, specifically the remmy 870P. However I also own the bentley of shotguns the mossy 590A1. While the remington has the tradition, heritage and is king of the mountain, the mossberg is such a close second that both will last several lifetimes.

ANYONE who says that mossbergs are crap probably shouldn't be posting on a gun board.

Mossy does a good job and covers some bases that remington missed.
Besides, their aluminium receivers resist rusting much more than the steel Remington ones do. My only real gripe is with their safety that seems to loosen up and loose its little detent ball at the worst possible moment. That can easily be fixed though and there are aftermarket solutions out there also.

When I went to buy a shotgun I looked at both th Remington and the Mossberg. There was no comparision, I bought the 870.

why would anyone start this thread?

I had an ArmsCor AK-22, now I can understand a thread saying, "Why would anyone buy an ArmsCor AK-22?" I just purchased an 870 - the Mossberg isn't a bad gun, and it is cheaper.
