Better 1st shotgun

I am looking into buying my 1st shotgun and wanted to know if anyone could help me make an educated choice between the 5 I am looking at. I am going to use the gun mainly for clay, but I may go hunting once or twice in the future.

Im looking to spend $1500


So here is what I'm looking at in no perticular order:

1. Winchester Super X3 (walnut)

You reeeeeeely need to shoot the ones you are thinking of. They are all well made and not much differance in funtionality

There is no way I/we can pick one for you.

If you have a chance to shop a place that have your choices in stock....pick them up...shoulder them...do you like the feel , the weight, ect.....then do this.

Close your eyes...with your eyes closed bring the shotgun up to your shooting position in one motion....now open your shooting eye...if you don't see nothing but the front bead the shotgun is a bad fit. Bad fit is NOOOOOOO good.

Then buy the one you like and fits well.

I can say buy a Browning, well

I like the Citori but a bit heavy and I do'nt like the semi pistol grip
The Citori 525 has a stock a bit to long
The 625 sporting is too high in the comb
I like the Citori Lighning grip but still to heavy
The Citori Feather has a good weight but I hate the fat forearm .
The Citori Lighning feather just feels perect

My top pick would be the Montefeltro. Are you stuck on an auto or would you consider an over and under double?

All your examples are good, depends on your $$$. I would love to have a Bennelli semi-auto. Although, I love the look and feel of a side by side; Coach Gun. I must have been a cowboy in my last life.

Have done some shooting at clay grounds with a friend over 3 or so months now so i've got an idea of how things are, am stuck between Lanber Deluxe, Lincoln Premier and Bettinsoli Diamondline. has anyone got any views between these? thanks!

Thanks for all the help so far everyone. All the info is great. I guess I dont understand exactly hoe the over under shotguns work. How many rounds do they hold? I am not set on anything which is why I am open to all suggestions.

I do agree that I need to put whatever I am going to buy in my hands. I live in SF. Any recomendations?

Also what was ment by "Thefeeder" when he was talking about only seeing the front bead? What should I see? I shot a remington (not sure what model) and what worked for me was only seeing the front sight and then boom...no more clay.

Go to a gun store, hold and mount the Beretta and the Benelli. Buy whichever one feels best in your hand. Both are great shotguns and will remain so for decades.

Winchester SX3.........I have one I would not use any other shotgun....... thats just my personal opinion each person is different

The O/U will have less drama when you are shooting, less chance to jam and way easier to clean then an auto. If you carry your gun for a long time you can break it open to swing it over your shoulder. Also if you reload later in your shooting career an O/U is better for keepiong your hulls.
I don't know NorCal but it is a good idea to shoot the guns you are interested in, maybe find a range that has rentals.
The idea of shooting a shotgun is NOT look down the barrel at all. Your eyes should only be locked on to the target (clay) and only see your barrel in your peripheral vision. If you go to a skeet range and shoot crossing targets you'll know what I mean. The moment your eye jump back on your barrel your swing will stop and the target will fly right by you.
Good luck on your quest !!! I would definately recommand an Over/Under. And the Browning White Lightning 28" bbl would be a great choice for your first shotgun !!
