I would suggest either a Remington 870 or a Mossberg 500. I happen to have a Remington 870 Express which I bought because the store did not have a Mossberg in stock. I really enjoy the 870 and it has LOADS of after market items. As an aside if you change the 870s extractor and a couple of springs you have a 870 Police without the added costs.

Get anything with a pump - no semi autos.
The sound of the pump alone will clear any bad guys out of your house.Comment

True wealth is time. Time to enjoy life.
Life's journey is not to arrive safely in a well preserved body, but rather to slide in sideways, totally worn out, shouting "holy schit...what a ride"!!

I have a Tristar Viper G2 Tactical. Its a Semi 12 gauge
I have a couple hundred rounds through it now and only had eject issues in the beginning while breaking it in...Guy said 2 3/4" #8 shells were fine...a little light for break in, does ok with them now. I ended up using some 3" #6 loads along with a bunch of misc shells I was given...mostly magnums in 2 3/4' and 3" with shot sizes from #2 to #6, I kept a handful of #BB to keep for HD
http://www.tristarsportingarms.com/producttactical.html was 329.00
Added the light and holder (and batteries, charger and pressure switch) for around 40.00

The Mossbergs and Remingtons are upgradable as well with tons of aftermarket accesories...My Tristar - None that I know of yetLast edited by Glackowitz; 06-09-2010, 9:55 PM.Comment

i own a Benelli M1 Super 90 and a new Remington 870P; love em both. yet i am attracted to older Remington Wingmasters with blued patina dripping and wood furniture.... there are many great alternatives out there for you. Shotguns is not where my limited knowledge of anything in this life is strong, but i know what i like. you have to try em out for yourself to determine what fits you best. a deal maker might be a shotgun that has a wide array of aftermarket accessories available for it, or that may not matter to you at all. decide what is most important to you and what the general purpose of this shotgun will be and that will narrow down the candidates for your assessment. above all do research; there are many conversations on this forum regarding your question of which shotgun to buy, and are available for your reading enjoyment. good luck with your search.Comment
