big 5 has decent guns?

does anyone know if the remington 870 28" ever goes on sale at big 5? are any of the other guns worth owning? i want this primarily for trap shooting. i went yesterday, went thru 125 shells, got a fatass bruise on my shoulder, and got hooked! more money down the drain...!

The gun should not be punishing you like that after 125 rounds of target loads.

If you were at a range, sign up for a lesson, you will learn how to shoulder the gun and find out what fits you a bit better. Worth the 45-50 bucks in pain alone.

Wife and I shoot 100-125 per outing...no bruise. We shoot production guns with no stock mods.....I like mine and she likes hers....she went through 4 guns before she found the one...now she can pick up a shotgun and say "This one dosn't fit me"

Big 5 has great deals. Just wait for the next sale and use a coupon that doesn't exclude firearms. They have sales a couple times each month.

If you're looking to buy new, you'll be hard pressed to find a better deal than Big 5 if you wait for a sale and use a coupon.

The sporting model of 870 is usually always in the sale paper rotation for Big 5 every few weeks.

+1 to the above that 125 rounds of clay target loads should not be punishing. Mounting the gun correctly to the shoulder will eliminate most all of the punishment. I went through four boxes in a couple of hours Sunday morning at the club and my shoulder wasn't a bit sore... that was with my unported O/U which is still set up with it's factory butt pad and stock length.

If you are looking for something mainly for trap definitely look around at the trap clubs and ask questions. Usually pumps are more punishing than semiautos or well made break guns. You shouldn't be bruising yourself after only a 100 or so rounds.
Also a lesson is a great idea. You'll learn how to shoulder your gun and be consistent.

If you want other choke tubes you can buy them from Mossberg or other online stores. If you're not in a hurry Big 5 will usually have these combos on sale for $259 2-3 times a year.

125 rounds of 12ga through a pump will bruise any shoulder that's not used to it... Sure it won't bruise if you shoot 500 rounds a week, but you're used to the recoil.

This is a good all around and great first shotgun. I just upgraded to a Saiga 12, but I am definitely not sorry I have a Mossy 500 combo still

Also, if you keep your shotgun tight to your shoulder when firing you shouldn't get anymore significant bruising. Its when you are loose with it, or even have it an inch off your shoulder, that you really get hit hard.

The Mossberg Combo's are fixed choke barrels, they are not removable!
The Remington Express has removable chokes!

Muscle memory, the more you shoot the less shocked it will be to the trauma. My first day out with mine I got bruised from 3 boxes worth, and the second time out I shot about 200 with no bruise, and it was shouldered correctly and precisely the same on both and all subsequent outings.
