    A final 4

Ok, so after taking everyone's input into consideration, I've come to this:

If I do decide to get an autoloader, I'm set on the Beretta 3901. However, why spend the extra money when I could get a better pump shotgun for the price. As for the pumps I'm considering, it's either the Benelli Supernova or the Browning BPS Stalker. I'm not sure about the Remington 870... am I wrong in judging its quality based upon its price?

If you can give me some clear cut advantages of an autoloader vs. spending less money on a nicer pump-action, that might help make up my mind.

    Thanks a third time,
    Adam

Are you going to use this for a clay gun and hunting? Or a ghetto blaster?
I move slow but I make up for it by shooting poorly.

When I hit the lotto I'm only shooting factory.

I'd say you're wrong to judge the 870 for its price. Part of the reason they're so cheap is because so many are made. This is in turn the result of them being so popular, which comes from their reliability.

I'd suggest getting a Mossberg 590, but that's because its what I got for my first gun .

It would definitely help to know what you want to use it for and what specs you want.

The 870 is the pump gun.
It has been THE pump gun for many many years and will continue to be so.
With all the after market parts available it is impossible to beat.

I love my 870. It does everything I need it to do and is tons of fun at the trap range.

I'm not familiar with the 3901, however I do have a 391 and I love it. It is a wonderful autoloader.

If you are set on pump actions, I would look no where else than a Rem 870. They are cheap and very reliable and there is a plethora of aftermarket accessories and parts for them. You could buy your clay setup, and a 18" barrel to leave on it around the house for HD. There really is no point buying a super expensive pump action. They all do essentially the same exact thing. Just think in the long run on accessories and replacement parts.

The 3901 is the current version of the 391's predecesser (390).

Personally I bought my first shotgun last October... I read a huge amount and decided on a pump-action. Which left me with Mossberg vs. Remington. Winchester was left out since the plant they build then out was ka-put.

Based mainly on this article: http://members.tripod.com/%7Ejth8260/870.html
(no dremels please, no painful thumb crunch, location of satefy)

                The purchased a Mossberg combo:
                1. A 18.5" smooth bore (home defense - short range barrel)
                2. A 28" improved choke (bird shot - clay pigeon, hunting if the world comes to an end)

For $205 - it was an after the hunting season started sale at Big5 Sporting Goods.

Nearly 3 cases of ammo later (#00 buck, #6 bird, 1oz slugs, 600grain magnum 3" slugs ~700+ rounds). I am VERY happy with my purchase, and the accessories available for the Mossberg have made this into the ultimate multi-purpose gun. (Knoxx stock, slug barrel w/scope, bipod (yes), etc...)

                Anyway.

                Hope this helps!
