going off memory so I could be forgetting some things. the M1014 has the flag stamped on the receiver witch is cool as hell to me. and only 2500 made super cool IMO. the M11707( new M4) has the notched buffer tube to take the collapsable stock 4 ports in the barrel M1014 has 2. and there was some beefing up of the M11707 where it seats in the reciever not sure what cant remember. I have the new one cuz I had to have the desert camo but the american flag and only 2500 made realy makes me want the old one. -

The M1014 model was released during the national AWB years, so while it had the "telescoping-style" pistol grip stock like the original military weapon it would not actually collapse (some folks after the national AWB ban expired made some mods like milling notches into the buffer tube to allow it to collapse). Indeed it has the flag on the receiver. It also had a fixed choke whereas the M4 has adjustable chokes. Not sure about any beefing up.Comment

1014 & M4 ( 11707 ) are the same thing less the 1014 has a fixed bore and the 11707 has a removeable choke and a notched recoil rod to accept the skeleton stock....but dont tell a 1014 owner they're the same..he will get offended

The M4 (M11707) does in fact currently have 2 ports in the barrel (I just checked), though I get the impression some did ship with the 4 port barrel. I don't think they do anymore as said barrels cause cracked bolt carrier groups when using full power rounds if what I have read is any indication.sigpic

Don't know about HD, but the M4 is closer to std issue for the military making it more desirable for some. However, the collapsible stock/pistol grip is not allowed in CA. So if you like that look, M1014 is your only choice, if you are okay with pinning or the solid stock/pistol grip then the M4 is legal.Comment

so some would say 1014 would be better for hd if it was just used for hd since it is a working shotgun meaning having one purpose due to no choke.Comment

As for which is better for HD I heard somewhere the M1014 has a thicker barrel compared to the M11707, so in theory it is superior. Practically however the guns are nearly identical in all the ways that matter in that both are built like tanks so it is probably a negligible difference.sigpic
