Shot gun barrel cutting?

Is it legal to cut the barrel as long as you keep at 16"? Or is any modification illegal?

I would find out what the over all length has to be. Seems like for long guns it is 25 inches not sure for shot guns. also it is good to leave a bit of insurance room ... like cut to 18.25 to give you enough to finish before it becomes a felony.

OAL for shotguns is 26". Make sure that you measure the barrel correctly before you cut it. Do not include the chamber in your 18" measurement, it's 18" from the mouth of a shell that's inserted in the chamber to the end of the barrel.

it's 18 from the bolt face. drop a dowel in a empty gun and measure off 18. make it 18.50 to be safe. 26 inches overall. and thats from a strait line down the length of the top of the barrel going back, not any diagonal

Overall length is 26" minimum.

Barrel length is 18" minimum; measurement is from the front of the bolt face to the end of the barrel. The chamber HAS to be included.

You can cut it to whatever lenghth you want.There are no restrictions for shotguns! It just has to have a stock.

Ah yeah there are restrictions on shotguns, that being a barrel length of 18 inches anything shorter and you have create an illegal SBS and committed a felony.
