Over and Under?

I'm looking forward to your report. With 3 kids in college, that never seem to be able to leave!!!! I'm interested in your feedback.

I have a coupon sitting on my table from remington to buy a gun from the factory at cost, less some % that's good until September. They have a trap gun that SMRP lists for around $2350. I should call to see what my price would be.

Any late model Remington O/U's that are worth a darn? Anybody?

The only O/Us currently in the regular Remington catalog are the Premiers, which are made for them in Italy. I see some of the models of them at a couple of sources online for $1200 +. These are gorgeous guns, to my eye, some of the reviews I've found compare them fairly well to Brownings.

Although everyone still likes Brownings better... wonder why?

ETA: reading manual for the Spartan, the trigger is selectable. Just have to know how to do it. And the choke tubes are not Rem Choke so if you have some, they wouldn't fit.

I've found the remington sts and 3200 at fantastic prices on line, compared to msrp, and have found the model 32 at some crazy prices, 999 to 9k. I'll have to go look at them.

Anybody? Remington?

If your range is around 1500 dollars, you have a LOT of choices to work with.

Browning Citori (possibly Cynergy models as well)
Beretta 686 series
Franchi (I've owned one of these for over a decade now, which I bought used.. it's great)
Remington Premier
Ruger Red Label (I've heard good and some iffy on reliability for these... YMMV)
Weatherby
Winchester Select/Supreme ( I have one of these, made by FN in Belgium.. like it better than the Citoris!) or the new 101.

If you look around, and with 1500 in hand, you could probably even get into one of the semi-custom Italian guns if you don't mind used.

I would stay away from the "bargain" guns like the CZ, Mossberg Silver, Rem. Stoeger Condor, etc. Lots and lots of complaints about poor triggers, breakage, etc.

Mostly, I would pick something that FITS and feels good to you. I liked certain aspects of each gun I tried last time I was O/U shopping, until I picked up the Winchester one. It just fit me right and the controls were right there for me.

Remington 3200s are GREAT trap guns. A little heavy for the field, if you want to hunt, but they are legendary on clays.

I think this is more information on O/U's than I've found on Calguns ever. Thank everyone for your input. I've noticed the same brands and models mentioned routinely and I'd be crazy not to look at them first, so I will.

I'm just finishing a 1911 built from parts and should have enough $$ saved in 2 months to look seriously. A couple of you offered to either meet me at one of the ranges, or let me drool on your shotgun. Don't be surprised if I contact you as hidden shotgun stash grows.

+1 On staying away from the low end O/U's

A note on Weatherby's.....There are very good bargins out there (on the other sites) for the SKB built Weatherby Orion Field. Good quality and a nice balanced swinging gun. I have not put mine down and I'm a Browning guy through and through.....dosen't mean it will fit you as it does me...but a darn good shotgun for the 1K price range.
