    Over and Under?

I haven't found much discussion here about O/U's and am curious is there's a forum or link anyone can recommend.

I'm looking for a midprice (after looking at the prices I'm looking at somewhere under $1500 + or - a few bucks, but don't have much hands on experience with them. Any place where they do evals? I've just started shooting trap and enjoy it, and would like to add an O/U to my shotgun arsenal (which consists of one 1100). I"m not replacing the 1100, I just want ANOTHER shotgun!! Doesn't even have to be new.

    Thanks

I know that this is a ways off, but Raahuage's has a show most every year IIRC, in May that has just about every gun manufacturer represented there.

They set up booths and you can test fire any firearm on the table. When I was searching for a new shotgun, I did just that after I had already narrowed my search down to two particular shotguns.

Beretta won out over the Browning that I was also considering just by being able to test each one at that show.

Yep, buy a "B" gun and you can't go wrong.

But Brownings and Berettas are very different. Try both BEFORE you buy.

Where do you live? I've got both

If you are shooting trap, then you can't go wrong with a Citori XT Trap. When it comes to sub-2K O/U guns on trap ranges, there are more XTs than anything else. And for good reason. They are a solid gun that won't give you any problems. You can pick one up used for around $1500 if you look. There are usually always a couple of them for sale on trapshooters dot com.

          ...

Shotgunworld is a good link. There is little to gain by reading about a shotgun...what counts is how it feels to you and how good it fits you. If you are in the Bay Area...you are welcome to meet me and try out some of my Brownings.

Sarge, where you located. Turners has some great deals going on for Beretta and Brownings under $1500.

Beretta 686 WOS 12/30" $1499 Signal Hill store
Browning Citori Field 12/28" $1499 San Bernadino store
Browning Citori White Lightning 12/38" $1299 Signal Hill store

Tough to beat those prices for brand new!

wow!! Thank you all for the information and the links. The shotgun is first on the list after insurance, taxes, a loan (gift) to one of my kids, and a couple of OTHER insignificant $$ issues.

I've had others recommend the Browning AND the Beretta and I would probably be smart to look at them.

Thank you for offering to let me look at your shotguns. I'm going to pass for the moment and keep saving. I missed the OC gun show and was trying to get there to look at some O/U's. REvoman mentioned Raahuage's show in May and that may work out just about perfect for me and my budget.

Thank you again for the information. I appreciate it very much. Any other information or insights are greatly appreciated.

Shotguns are a lot like optics - you get what you pay for.......

Depending on what you want to use them for, that is.

For regular use, you want to go with a quality product that will perform to your expectations.

All of the models the guys listed above are great shotguns.

Go to a place in Azusa called PACIFIC SPORTING ARMS. The owner is John.
This place is all shotguns. $1,500 is a decent budget. They may even have a deal on something used. However, his good stuff is way up in the 10's of thousands. You may spend all day in his shop looking ;-).
John will find you a gun that FITS you. I bought my Beretta from him several years ago for about $1,395.00. After my purchase, the local skeet guys were amazed that I, a novice, was smart enough to go to John and buy the right gun.
His shop is on Foothill Blvd., North of 210 Freeway and East of 605 Freeway. Good luck.

I got a screamin' deal on a Weatherby O/U 20+ years ago from a roommate. I really like it. Another I like, and may someday purchase, is a Ruger Red Label. Not quite the level of Beretta or Browning, but a pretty solid nice gun. They list new for about $1800 but are found on this board once in a while for a lot less.

But the real one on my list is a Browning Diana superposed, Belgian made.

However, I may have to sell a kidney for that one...

Wait a minute, I thought that title only applied to me!

Seriously, congrats on a great article.
John is a great guy and his shop is even better. I went to PSA on a 'whim' after putting an SG on lay-away at Turner's. After I put the Beretta 686E to my shoulder, I immediately went back to Turner's and cancelled the lay-away. I think it cost me $40 to get out of it. I quickly learned that buying an SG is very different from buying a rifle or pistol. It's gotta fit!

FWIW... I've been looking for a while for a "entry level" O/U and recently landed on a new Remington Spartan. MSRP on these is in the $600 range but they can be had for less. Davidson's had them on a SHOT show special and one local FFL was running them in at $359, so it was hard to pass up.

These are made for Remington in Russia by Baikal. It's in jail right now but I had a good examination when I DROSed it. 28 inch, supplied with three choke tubes, more can be had for $15 or so each. Mounted well and the wood was far, far better than what I might have expected. Lockup was good and tight and it can be switched from ejector to extractor easily. Only downside to me is that the trigger is not selectable, bottom barrel goes first, always.

I'll have it out for weekend after next and will post a range report.
