Ya, if you're going to limit yourself to the M4, then you're stuck with a PG... but like I said, you aren't going to be able to easily get your thumb up to the safety. Really not a good option.

ah. i see. I would have to maneuver my hand around grip to put safety on.

hmmm, well I am trying to figure this out here. could to have adjustable stock with out pistol grip?

What size range of shooters are you talking about that can't handle a standard SG buttstock?

My friend's 8 year old son has no problem with an 870... kid's pretty good, sometimes better (or luckier) than I am shooting skeet.

Have any of you seen the movie "Training Day", he holds the pg shotgun up at a lil above chest level and forward away from his face. I know its a movie but appears to be a good way of holding it, its far from your face and more in a position to point shoot, which is much better than shooting from the hip..
Unless you have 10rounds coming at you in semi auto..
A Pistol grip Saiga is the ultimate spray home defense shotgun. IMHO

              Yes. It's a movie.
How far from his face was it?
Was it a 2-handed pistol grip, or was he still gripping the forearm (would have to in real life to even think about aiming it... shudder to think of what would happen if fired with 2 hands on the PG).

If he was gripping it normally, then it couldn't have been THAT far from his face... certainly couldn't be any farther than it would be when shoulder fired. That's less than a foot from my face... and the ONLY thing keeping it from flying back is the right thumb.
Rotating the wrist enough to get any of the palm supporting the back of the PG when held in that position is probably going to break your wrist with anything larger than a 20ga.

              I don't think so.

There is a technique of shooting a long gun without a buttstock in which you fully extend your arms forward as much as possible and bring the gun up so that you can still aim down the sights. For shotguns, I usually see it done with slings. It's also the technique that most commonly gets people's teeth knocked out, unfortunately.

Here's a random YouTube video I found that demonstrates my point:

                        Dude that's way too close!
When I shoot my pg its either from the hip, from the chest, or up on the side away from my face. No need to aim, everything in front is gone for sure.

You just have to get used to the pump, then its natural.

                        IMHO, I prefer og stock.

You don't "shoulder" that type of shotgun. With a PGO (Pistol Grip Only) shotgun, you "fire from the hip" where your strong hand is holding the pistol grip snug just above your hip, and your weak arm is holding the forearm. You hold the gun parallel to the ground, and you will hit what you are facing. It takes some practice and some getting used to, but I feel that it is a great home defense tactic. Plus, without the stock, the gun is 2/3 shorter and easier to keep out of sight.

Thats exactly how he shoots it in"Training Day" and i think that would give you the best sight picture and accuracy (so to speak). I will try it next time i go to range with some low recoil shells I will even post pics of my teeth of i still have them. I think it depends on upper body strength. I have decent strength in my arms, so I am pretty sure that type of shooting style is viable for me. I'm sure a woman wouldnt want to shoot it up high and far from the face.
