Recommended ammo for HD?

I was on a 911 call with the Fire department, where a guy had been shot 2 maybe even 3 times with birdload. The first shot was within 8 Feet, if I remember correctly, then the second from about 20. The guy hoped over a wall, and the owner shot again, unsure if he hit him. The LEO's caught up with him about 3 hrs later, he was sitting in his girlfriends living room, plucking out the bb's.

Can someone please tell me the benefit (or purpose) of alternating slugs with buck shot in a HD shotgun magazine well?

At room distances (7-yards), they are both still staying within a 1 1/2" inch group.

Why mix and match? Please expound on this.

State and Federal studies shows that BG who commits crimes while on drugs or something that pumps them up is less then 1%, so I wouldnt be to worried about a guy on drugs, but adrenaline thats another story.

OO Buck shot is good, but I'd go with #4 buck or reduced 00buck (which I load). Slugs would not be necessary for my home and if I have to use slugs...it'll be outside and that, Im in for a fight at court for sure. Why am I shooting a guy at 50 yards, outside? Yeah, I've lost 50% of the case already.

Its important to know whats behind you, but when your adrenaline pumps and things are happening not in seconds but nano-seconds, the last thing you'll think about is that $10,000 china cabinet behind your attacker...choose the ammo that if right for your home. Thats the most important thing.

Raymond, There is no good reason to "candy cane" or alternate loads within your magazine, period.
Same goes for less than lethal munitions (LLM) in deadly weapons, if you have time to "give someone a chance" your circumstances were not life threatening, thus use of a firearm (DEADLY force) was not warranted. If you bean bag some Adam Henry that breaks into your car and he flees, you'll feel pretty good until the Detectives knock on your door because that guy died as a result of the unintentional beanie hit to his head a week later.
LLM are never deployed in deadly force situations. LLM are reserved for situations that need to be resolved short of deadly force without risking personal injury to responding officers to affect an arrest. In essence it's a long range stun gun and who in their right mind is going to use a stun gun against a deadly threat? And if it's not a deadly threat, why are you using a gun?

that is exactly what I am saying!

1) Alternating slugs with buck in a magazine well serves no purpose.

2) If you shoot someone, you need to SHOOT TO KILL BECAUSE YOUR LIFE WAS ENDANGERED. (Not because you were scared).

3) Personally, I am a firm believer in low-recoil slugs for home defense...if the situation dictated it. It would naturally be 00-Buck first (which is what I have in the tube), but I have 5 slugs at the ready in case it should be needed.

4) The pistol holds me until I can get to my shotgun. The shotgun (behind my office door, which is our safe room) holds me until I have the few seconds (and the peace of mind) to grab the carbine from the office safe. If the carbine cannot be gotten, the shotgun will do, and may possibly pull double-duty - hence the few slugs on hand if needed.

low recoil rounds are great on your shoulders to practice with. (Practice with what you have). They also penetrate a bit less, which doesn't really matter in a home (a few walls will still be penetrated), but may save a neighbor from harm. And they - MOST IMPORTANTLY - control muzzle flip. This in turn, effects how fast you can re-acquire your sights on the target again for rapid follow-up shots.

I would still like to hear the reasoning behind multiple round-loaders. (Candy-caners, huh)?
