If you're still looking, I was in Jerry Berman's gun shop last week here in San Bernardino and they had ( or still have ) a 1300 Defender from about 1995 that's new in the box. The original owner had bought it new there and never fired it. He eventually brought it back in a little while ago and Berman bought it back from him. Didn't have time to look at it althought it's in it's original box. I don't know what he's asking but it may be worth your while to call them and find out.

good opinions. I am looking too. I understand the internals/receiver are not as strong in 1300 compared to 870?
How is it smoother than 870?Comment

I have all 3 and I would almost trade the 500 and the 870 both for another defender. No offers though please lol. Winchester without any second thoughtsOriginally posted by Neil McCauleyAre you actually suppost to "taste" wood?

alright. thanks. are there different components or the receiver different? That is maybe why.....i think it all comes down to personal preferance.. go handle them both and see what fits your fancy! ive shot an 870. they are nice... i dont think the action is nearly as smooth or as fast as the winchester. but there solid. i dont think you could go wrong with either...Comment

the 870 would be my 2nd choice, but don't get me wrong they are all excellent shotguns. Winchester is the smoothest and fastest shooter of the 3, and if you can find one in good or new condition I wouldn't pass it up. At the same time, don't be afraid to jump on a great deal for the mossberg or remi either. I would trust my life a thousand times over to all 3. The defender just cycles far smoother. coupled with a knoxx stock and it's the best thing since sliced bread. If anyone survives the 1st shot you will have absolutely no problems with a fast follow up. I've never heard of anyone still standing after some 00 buck or a slug punched through their chest though.Last edited by Noah3683; 01-22-2010, 2:35 PM.Originally posted by Neil McCauleyAre you actually suppost to "taste" wood?
