    Lowest felt recoil

I'm wondering if anyone can help me find a 12ga load with the least amount of felt recoil in an 870. I did a search and came up with nothing. I'd like to teach my wife how to use my 870, but she doesn't care for recoil or a lot of noise. I do have some trap loads, but I'd like to know if there is anything softer feeling out there.

As far as practicing with what you use, I've learned that shooting at a target at the range is a very different then shooting under stress or with adrenaline. I'm sure if she gets the basics down she will be able to handle buckshot if she ever needs.

    Thanks a bunch,
    BLD.

If you load, you can make reduced loads. The reason you asking is the same reason why I started reloading. Now my wife loves to shoot because I make tons of reduced loads for her to shoot. Too bad your too far, if you were close I would let you try a few rounds. Hehe

I know you asked for ammo recommendations, but I thought this was worth mentioning since it worked for me (in a very similar situation).

I purchased a Blackhawk Knoxx SpecOps stock. When used correctly this stock can reduce felt recoil by up to 95%.

Thanks for the recommendations. Funds are tight so right now all my spare cash is going towards a good rifle for my new favorite hobby. 3 gun matches. As for loading, I haven't had any time to load for my pistols, let alone getting a shotshell setup and having the time to use it.

Thanks but I'm really looking for a soft shooting load I can pick up at my local FUDshop (great store if you stay away from the gun counters).

Reloading pistol and rifles takes a bunch of time. Shotshells on the other hand, all you gotta do is pick up the spent shells, put it into the sizer, put a primer, charge it, wad/shot load it, crimp and your done. No trimming no tumbling ect like in pistol/rifle.

Edit: haha for got to put the main point of my reply. You can try the aguila minishells.

Since your 870 is pump action you should see if it will cycle mini shells. If it'll do that reliably, then that may be the lowest recoiling off the rack shells for you.

Yeah a big +1 here for the knoxx recoil absorbing stock. Then shoot full power loads. =)

Knoxx ops stock is one of the best investments for recoil reduction. If I had to take away all but 1 of the mods on my 590, the knoxx ops would be the one I'd keep.
The "best" handgun caliber debate rages on, meanwhile I just keep buying low recoil 00 buck.

I have a Knoxx pistol grip stock and love it. Much reduced felt recoil.

                    As for loads,

                    I shoot the Remington STS Managed-Recoil 1100fps #8 2 3/4

But the lowest fps loads I have seen are the

                    Winchester Winlite 2 3/4 #8 980fps

I have never shot them, but would assume they are pretty light

Try the winchester ranger law enforcement low recoil 00 buck, I shot that one day along with some steal bird shot and the bird shot had a lot more kick than the 00 buck, also the knoxx stock is a good investment I currently have one but when I shot the low recoil buck shot I just had the stock stock on it.

The Winchester FeatherLites are about the softest shooting shotshell you will be able to purchase. They are very light on recoil.

I haven't found the Winchester Featherlites yet, but I did find some Winchester WinLite low recoil that I've read some good reviews on. I'm going to try and find both locally so I don't have to worry about shipping (I don't care for the extra shipping fees or leaving ammo on my doorstep all day long).

I'd like to ask a question from those of you who are recommending the Blackhawk Knoxx stock. How much higher does it raise your cheek weld (hope I'm asking this right)? I ask because right now I see too much of the top of the barrel when I'm shooting with my stock furniture. It's not a big deal, but if I were to add a Knoxx stock down the road, and it put my line of sight any higher, I would have to add a set of tall ghost ring sights to get everything to line up again. If I were going to do all of that I might as well just buy another shotgun .

Blackhawk Knoxx SpecOps stock with a limbsaver on the end of it will make your recoil fears go away. if you still complain about it, you should just work on running away cuz even a handgun will put out more recoil then this combo.
