FNH SLP Mark 1

Hello everyone. I have been researching semi-auto shotguns and I am considering the FNH SLP Mark 1. I want to use it for HD and plinking. It has 8+1 capacity (2 3/4" shells) with a 22" barrell, and 43" overall length. What is everyone's opinion of it?

They are good shotguns...little pricey..but FN makes a good product. Something a little cheaper in the semi-auto field is the Mossberg 930 SPX...which is a very good weapon for the price. What made you consider the FN?

Thanks for the reply. I was considering the FN because I was originally researching the Benelli M4 and came across the FN. I like the fact that is about $800 less and has more shell capacity; whereas the M4 is 4+1 and requires an additional $200 for a FL tube to bring the capacity up.

I work with a few gun enthusiasts, but none of them seem to know anything about the FN.

Just as the FN pumps are really just tweaked Winchesters 1300s, the SLPs are brothers to the Winchester Super X2 shotguns. The Browning Gold is a cousin to both those autos.

I like the SLPs, but I failed to act when they were available for $600 and now they're too rich for my blood. Personally, I prefer the 18" model to the Mk.1, but I do like the barrel-mounted cantilever rail of the Mk.1. Though it doesn't look as sharp as the receiver-mounted rail, it assures that your sights and/or optics remain zeroed.

i have both the 18" SLP and the 22" Mk-1 and chose them after shooting several Benellis and handling the Mossberg 930 SPX.

i like the SLP for HD because i find it handier and the ghost ring sights line up perfectly with my eye when a throw it up to my shoulder. i also found it softer recoiling and just as fast, if not faster, getting rounds off than the Benelli.

the Mk-1 is more of a "play gun" because i'm thinking of shooting 3-gun. it is a bit more muzzle heavy. i guess it doesn't help that i mounted an EOTech red dot on the rail.

i was looking for a Winchester SX-2 Tactical, but couldn't find one. it's a bit lighter due to it's alloy receiver, but it has the longer barrel and the nice sights.

i looked at the Mossberg 930 SPX as a cheaper alternative to the SLP, but i wasn't impressed by it's workmanship and i started reading about it having feeding problems.

i like the SLP because it has the 2 gas pistons to optimize the cycle to your load and the 2 choke tubes it comes with. i have a side saddle sheel carrier and i'm thinking about adding a fiber optic front sight

FN's are the bomb!!

I am looking at one at this very moment for multi-gunning. (FN Mark I).

They are gas operated, and because of the weight, are exceptional for recoil management.

You cannot go wrong with an FN shotty.

Go for it.

if you have never shot multi-gun before...stay away from the optics on your shotty. They will place you in the Open Division, where you will be eaten alive by the meat-eaters.

Start in the Tactical Division until you are more comfortable. Then "consider" the Open Division.

Shoot with a purpose.

Interesting, maybe I'll look at the SLP too. I guess I need to handle both SLP and the Mark 1 to make my final decision. I do like the fact that the SLP is 4 inches shorter than the Mark 1.

Couple of 3 gun shooters I know run the 22" FN and really like them.
If I can't get my 1100 CM to run right this is my next choice. Just do not want to drink the tomato sauce.

For home defense, I'd also suggest looking more at the 18" version, 22" bbl/43" overall length is pretty cumbersome inside in a home! I did find the ghost ring sights seem a bit high vis a vis the bore axis which felt slightly odd to me for a shotgun.

The 22" version is used successfully by a number of folks for competition (e.g. 3 gun).

That's good advice. I will definately look at the 18".

Using the aftermarket barrel, could you use either FNH for an occastional skeet shoot? I'm looking an all around semi just like the OP.
