So while we are on the subject, what finishes does Remington offer on the 870s anyway?

Express: Black krinkle of some sort... rusts bad but whipes off
      Wingmaster: Bright blued
      Police: Parkerized
Marine: Used to be nickel but is now some sort of annodizing

Is the finish on the Tactical the same as the Express? What about the 1100 Tac-2 or 4. I'm thinking about an 1100 Tac-4 or should I buy an 11-87 Police?

Call Remington and tell them you don't want that PC finish back. Make them send you a new one. This is not some isolated incident. This is a crap finish and the one that comes back will be crap also. Raise hell with them and make them give you what you want.

The weapon most likely will go to an authorized repair shop, he will look at it and see there is nothing he can do. They are not going to run your receiver through the PC coating process, they are just going to send you another of the same. Put you foot down. The matte finish is crap as far as rust goes but it is durable and if you keep it clean and oiled it will last awhile.

Phew. I bought the black matte one w/ xs rail and grs. I also heard the grey's powder coat rubs off as well. I'm glad mines a black matte! Good luck with your situation. I'm sure rem will take care of it.

well today was a good day, finally got my Remington 870 back from them and i have to say i am impressed by it, the finish seems better and even has a darker look to it. lets just hope it doesnt start to flake and bubble again.

they sure took their time with your gun. let us know how the new finish holds up. i ended up getting a mossberg 500 though, but i still think the 870 with that finish and removable choke is an awesome gun.
