    remington 870 bubbling

I bought a remington 870 express tactical about 3 months ago and today when i decided to take it out shooting for the first time i saw that the finish on it had started to bubble. I took it to my local gun store and they told me that they have never seen anything like that on an 870 and that they were gonna send it to Remington. I have read online that this has happened to alot of people too and the question i wanted to ask was has this happened to anyone on this forum and if so when they send it in did it come back with the same crappy finish it had in the first place.
here is the link to show u guys which shotgun i bought.

its too late, its at the gun shop right now about to be shipped, but it looked really bad and ugly, it looked like as if it had horrible acne and it was very easy to peel of.

Did it come into contact with some type of harsh chemical?? Let us know if Remington doesn't fix it

nope, i was reading online and someone said that it had to do with Remington not prepping the metal correctly or the mix on the finish was wrong and that remington was aware of the issue.

I posted warnings about the PC finish on these weapons months ago warning that it would peel right off and was the worest finish I had ever seen on any weapon. If you can peel it off with your fingers then no wonder it blistered as it is not bonded correctly to the metal. Some guys PM me and I sent them pic's to prove this.

I also predicted a recall but now know that will not happen, however, complain enough while the weapons are still under warrenty and you could end up with a new one in a matte finish. Those who do not complain will be stuck with a weapon that has a crap finish and in the worset case scenerio could be rusting away under that poly coat

Sorry some of you did not get the word and ended up with this mess. Good thing is there is a great 870 under that poly coat crap so getting it refinished means you still have a great shotgun.

so when u send it in to get refinished do they put the same finish on it or does it comeback with the matte finish?

I highly doubt it, I am sure Remington has fixed the problem months ago.

Powder coating preparation is much like paint prep. If you don't get the sub-surface properly done the paint/coating will peel off.
Remember a few years ago when all the clear coat started peeling off car finishes because the car companies didn't properly prep the last color coat before clear coating.

wow i just read the thread aippi started about this and saw the pictures of how easy the coating came of. If i would have seen that thread earlier i would have never bought it.

Remington will fix whatever they need to. I bought a nice 1100 TB for my wife many years ago that had the stock cut to fit at the factory. When it came the stock was plain unfigured wood (the TB's have better wood) I Sent them a note, they sent a new matched complete stock set that was much higher grade than the TB's normally were also custom cut got length. They didn't even want the old one back. I emailed them about my 870 HD gun last fall asking about a sling swivel stud that the model did not come with.....it came in a week, no charge. They are a great company that really tries to take care of there customers. Every manufacturing company has problems from time to time. The difference is how they deal with them.

If you bought the gun at Big 5, chances are, it was sitting for months anyway.
