I didn't know that Knoxville was off limits.

It has been over a year since I last went there.

The last time we went, the area that everyone used for shooting was bulldozered over, and everything was gone. So we just went a little ways down the road (Devil's Head), set-up our targets, and went at it.

The Park Ranger came by, made sure we did not have anything illegal, and gave us his blessings.

As long as you stay away from the areas that are posted as PRIVATE PROPERTY, you should be fine.

If things have changes since then...well...I guess I am now wrong.

Gonna look into this a little more, as we were planning a shoot up in the Devil's Head area soon.

Raymond if you google knoxville blm you can find the closure order. The closure in effect now is dated 4-15-o8. This is the number for the blm office in charge of the area 707 468 4000. Maybe you were there before the closure? I miss shootin up there

you were correcto-mundo...it is now off limits.

But on the bright side, you can swing in the other direction and shoot at Cow Mountain.

Cow Mountain is a serious off-road trail, and can be accessed from the Ukiah side, or the Lake County side.

They have a nice target range set-up at Cow Mountain.

No fees, no supervision - but make sure to clean-up after yourselves, or it will be closed down as well.

I've heard "clean up after yourselves" a few times in this thread. It's hard to pick up a ton of lead and plastic wads.

If I owned a piece of property, that's the last thing I'd want on it, even if you picked up your empty shells.

Go to a range, be safe and have fun.

"hard" is not in the equasion. It is just what you need to do if you want to shoot.

I know that brass is more difficult to pick up, and is OK to leave. But pastic shotgun hulls must be picked-up...period.

If you have ever gone to public land where shooting is allowed, you will see FOOLS who go there with toilet seats, microwave ovens, fire extinguishers - that shoot them up and leave their mess.

This is what gives shooters a bad reputation on public lands.

You don't need to go there with a vacuum cleaner or anything...just allot yourself some time after shooting to police your area. That's all.

Leaving brass should be fine (folks go there every once in a while to gather it all up anyways), but plastic wads, empty shotgun shells, and your Burger King trash is not acceptable.

Just plain common sense. But there are still a whole bunch of fools who leave a "Woodstock Proportion Mess," and are making it harder and harder for shooters to find a place to practice.
