Where to throw clays?

I got a spring loaded clay thrower for xmas, and two manual throwers. Where in the Bay Area can I throw clays and shoot?

Best to go to an organized gun club and leave your throwers home. It is way too easy to get into trouble in and near the urban areas shooting. Martinez gun club is great as is the United Sportsman's in Concord. Commercial throwers are much faster than anything that can be bought reasonably and it gives you a chance to concentrate on shooting, not the mechanics of throwing a clay bird. We have some spring loaded throwers at the ranch that we play with but it gets old real quick. Lots of broken pigeons in the machine and other malfunctions.

There is always the Nevada Desert.......... There are no "Casual" shooting areas in the Bay area that won't get you arrested or hassled. The other thing is that these clubs need support from shooters so they don't go away like our other shooting rights.

Wow. That's a shame. I guess the Bay area isn't the most gun friendly place in CA. I have a thrower and I just go to the desert with some biodegradable clays and have a ball all day. I can't afford a whole day at a range. I do support my local range though every couple weeks for a few rounds. If you could find a place to legally shoot, I'd try and do both.

Theres always panoche down past Hollister. Thats where i take my launchers. I dont think it gets old; Take a bunch of guys and it gets really competitive

Throwing your own clays is fast becoming a thing of the past.

You're much better off going to a range that's setup to control the lead, clay and plastic leftover from shooting a round of clays.

Going to the desert sounds like a good idea, but it leaves a huge mess.

p.s. plus "throw your own" targets tend to be really easy to hit.

You can also go up to Yolo county, Knoxville, to be exact. (About 20 minutes past Lake Berryessa).

When you get there, head up into the mountains towards Devil's Head, and you should be fine.

We go there all the time, and shooting is awesome.

Just make sure to clean-up after yourself!!

That is nuts......The clubs here charge 5 or 6.00 for a full round of 25. Those guys don't have much of a business model!!!!!

Los Altos Rod and Gun has a bunch of manual clay throwers set up, where you can throw your own clays (bio only).

Where do you live? I know of a place,out side Livermore on paterson pass RD.
I have never been there but people tell me that the place is a good place to shoot. Just clean up.

Knoxville has been closed to recreational shooting for a couple years . You can hunt there but no target shooting .If you go to the blm web site and look up knoxville they give you the info. I used to go there also because it was only 45 minutes from my house but poeple shooting like a holes ruined it for everyone. Cow mountain wich is also blm land near Ukiah allows shooting still.
