    cleaning shotty barrel help needed

I just got a used 590A1 shotty. In the chamber side of the barrel there seems to be plastic or something inside the barrel. I used solvent and a bore brush to try and clean it out, but with no success.

Anny suggestions on how to clean it out?

000 wool wrapped around a brush.

    Power drill.

This is assuming it's a smooth bore, but I assure you that you won't be damaging the barrel.

But I love the smell of both....

This is precisely how I clean my precision rifles.

Seriously though, that doesn't damage the barrel?!

Nope. I actually had a few low hull steel cased cheapie birdshot rounds that would FTE on my 870 unless I damn near slammed the buttstock on the ground while gripping the foreend. Lil bit of that plus a LOT of remoil and maybe 30 seconds to spin it in the chamber, bam, polished to a mirror shine and works like a champ.

Easy....common question for new shotgunners in my classes...

tornado style brush will take it out quick.

Shotgun bore cleaner has chemicals to break down the residual plastic left in the bore / choke from wad / shot cup.

Use them both, it will be clean in minutes....and no power tools needed

There was just a thread about cleaning plastic out of SG barrels:

When seconds count, the police are only minutes away.

I have a few different solvents. Do any of these work to break down plastic fouling?

I've used Blast and Clean with good results. I generally keep my guns fairly clean, though.

I have never seen this myself. If its bit of plastic, would shooting it also help to get rid of the plastic?
RIP Louis Awerbuck. I miss you and your training.

Get one of those cheap Hopps or whatever brand you like cleaning kits. It will have a long aluminum rod for cleaning rifle/shotgun barrels, clamp that thing in the end of your drill. The only issue you may have is that on very long barrels, by the time you take the handle end off so you can put it in a drill, it mite be too short to run all the way through. You can solve that by either doing it from each end, or buying a 2nd cleaning rod.

0000 steel wool, and bronze brushes are too fine to harm even a match-grade rifle barrel, provided you're not doing it daily. A quick buzz when it gets really dirty won't harm it a bit.
