Is that correct for CA? So you can't just have a pistol grip in place of an A2 style stock? I have an 18" Remington 870 and was wondering if I can use the Hogue Tamer grip with it... thanks.

26" = Minimum Overall Length?

Minimum overall length for long guns is 26" and the minimum barrel length is 18". Hogue Tamer grip is perfectly legal. I'm not sure what the length comes to with an 18" barrel."People sleep peaceably in their beds at night only because rough men stand ready to do violence on their behalf."

Shotguns only.
BATF is 26" for all long guns, but California requires 30" OAL on a centerfire rifle or it's an SBR.- Rich

also i believe that 26" rule is only on semi auto centerfire riflesComment

Incorrect.
Both CA and BATF have the 26" rule for rifles and shotguns, any less and it is considered an SBR or SBS.
CA has a secondary law regardings semi-automatic centerfire rifles. They must be 30" long, les it be considered an AW. Centerfire rifles that are not semi-automatic, and all rimfire rifles only have to comply with the SBR regs.Jack

As I've stated before...it's *really* hard (if not impossible) to get a SBS accidentally as long as you follow barrel length requirements. My Mossberg 500A, from barrel end to where stock meets receiver, is just over 28" (and I have a 20" barrel, so it's just over 26" if I had an 18" barrel). That's not including a pistol grip."Ok, sign language 101. This means stay low, this means stack up, and this means I'm gonna punch your lights out if you don't shut up!"Comment

The Mossberg 500 style receivers are right at 8 inches long. Even with no stock whatever, and an 18 inch barrel, you are still legal. Most shotguns have stocks and most have at least an 18.5 inch barrel. There is literally no way to break the law unless you cut your barrel or in some bizarro world are sold a military/LEO super shorty barrel.Comment

O/U and SxS shotgun receivers are usually shorter than a pump-action receiver and with them, you do have to be carefull that you have enough gun behind an 18" barrel to keep it above 26".Jack
