Benelli M4 Question

Sorry if this has been asked before, but....

I have a Benelli M4 with pistol grip, but the solid stock, which is way too long. I know there are a couple of solutions: 1) one poster here sawed down the stock to shorten LOP and it looked great and 2) that Mesa Tactical is coming out with a shorter stock.

This considered, does anyone have any experience in adding the Benelli skeleton/collapsible stock to the existing buffer tube? I think buying one of these stock kits from a seller on Gunbroker would shorten LOP and without the grooves in the buffer tubes, be fixed (not collapsible) and therefore CA compliant.

Any thoughts, experience, etc. on this would be helpful.

Those skeleton stocks are just as long as the solid stocks. The USMC hates them.

And in any case, buying one on eBay or Gunbroker will cost you $800 to $1,000.

Sometime in Q1 2010, we hope.

It's hard to say since we can't even think about beginning work on the molds until the LAPD have had some time with the prototype. We've spent a fortune on development and prototypes and here we sit on our thumbs waiting for a stinking screw.

Slightly related, do you plan on making shorter stocks for the Mossberg 930SPX? My alternative is to have a gunsmith cut down the factory one. Do you have any idea how much could be cut off the Mossberg 930 SPX stock? Ideally I'd like the LOP closer to 13"

No plans at the moment, but we could change our minds if the 930 go more penetration in the law enforcement market.

Someone read my mind. I was thinking of chopping a buttstock myself, but I think I'll wait for what's coming.

Altering the collapsible seems like a good solution. If I could find one for, like, $20 .

I find running a standard straight stock on Benellis makes the LOP feel much more manageable. Think about how you hold and shoulder a pistol grip stock versus a straight stock and you can see how the straight stock will feel shorter (even if both are the same length). A straight stock is available from Benelli for the M4.

Of course, this doesn't help those who are set on PG stocks but those who are open to (or prefer) straight stocks -- consider giving it a try.
