    930-SPX Problems?

Just got back from reading SG worlds threads on the 930SPX. I see I am not alone there and I'm wondering if anyone here has had any of the same problems and has any fixes (other than sending it back to Mossberg).

Biggest issue is: Failure to Extract (FTE) with all kinds (brands and types) of ammo. Buck, bird, slug, doesn't matter it will FTE somewhere in a firing string.
The gun is clean, gas rings-clean. Gun is lubed, well. Gun has been sent back once already for same problem. Barrel was replaced.

After replacement: Failure to Fire (FTF). No firing pin strikes. Gun is assembled according to specs and fires...sometimes. Bolt is clean and lubed and appears to be assembled correctly.
Also, new problem: Shells releasing early from magazine. This is really troubling because the SPX doesn't have the access through the elevator, like the 500/590's, so you don't just push the errant shell back into the mag.

I am at my wit end with this gun. I love it WHEN it works, but geez Louise it's not giving the love like it used to. Any ideas out there? Other than selling the P.O.S.....

I had the same problem, but it was because I took it out of the box and straight to the range. Not a drop of oil, and not cleaned. Once I cleaned the factory gunk, the gun ran perfect with 2-3/4" #7 shot (the lightest loads I had). As fast as I could pull the trigger.

I had problems early on with Federal Low-Recoil flight control buck, but after about 30-50 rounds of various other things, it seem to eat almost everything just fine.

That's odd that only replacing the barrel would affect the firing mechanism, unless the new barrel was so out of spec that it's setting the bolt too far back into the receiver and causing it to partially obstruct the hammer.

Where are you located? If we ever hit the same range, I'd be happy to take a look at your SPX. If nothing else, we could try a barrel swap but hopefully I'd be able to figure it out.

I appreicate the offer but I'm in the south end of the state Fuzzy, San Diego area of CA. and Las Vegas NV. But that would be very telling, if a working SPX guns barrel fixed my problems or not.
I figured a break-in period would be needed too, but I've got 150 to 200 hundred rounds or so through it...sometimes one at a time. The FTF are new, after barrel replacement...rounds jumping the shell stops are also...WTF? over.

Just found this bit of info:

Mossbergman, I thing you unfortunately found a bad apple

Do what it takes for Mossberg to correct this issue.

I pick up my 930 next weekend, we can take them out and try some swaps if you like.

My friend brought his mossberg 930 straight to the range, (actually he picked it up at the range) and shot it, no cleaning no oiling just took it right outta the box and shot low recoil and full power buckshot. Ran perfectly, so I'm sure its just a factory problem.

I hate when this sorta thing happens, I bought a brand new springfield TRP 1911 and a month after buying it the hammer was found to be defective and had to be shipped back for replacement.
The "best" handgun caliber debate rages on, meanwhile I just keep buying low recoil 00 buck.

After Action Report: I once again stripped the gun down, cleaned it and took the advice I read on Shotgun World and oiled it up "ran it like an AR". Not sure exactly what worked, but 50 rounds of Winchester 7 1/2 birshot, pretty much as fast as I could load 8 and fire them, flew through the gun just like advertised.

What I did different was: Light coat of oil on gas rings, light oil on mag tube where everything slides, heavy dose of Mil-Tech in the Receiver (in the rails and along the top where the bolt runs). Made sure bolt was assembled correctly and hammer was hitting firing pin (was getting FTF). Took out trigger assembly and cleaned it, light oil on moving parts. That's it. It worked for the first time, as advertised for 50 rounds. TA-DA...Now that it works, I think it's faster than my Benelli. I'm going to have to put them on the clock. It definitely shoots "softer" than my Super 90 A-1

I really appreicate all the responses. It's great to have a place like this to go to when you are hitting a brick wall.

The gun is really fun to shoot.
