    Charles Daly opinion

    Hey Everyone

So what is the collective opinion of the Charles Daly shotgun?
Rated against the Rem 870 or Moss 500.

    Thx in advanced

I think Charles Dalys are 870s. I could be wrong though

Charles Daly are garbage. Get a Remington 870 or Mossberg 500. I've heard horrible things about the Charles Daly. The other day at the range a person brought a brand new Charles Daly and it jammed on him.

From what I recall the CD is patterned off an 870 - but is not a clone, so parts are not interchangeable.

That's unlike the Norinco 982 - which is an 870 clone and can interchange most all parts and accessories.

I've looked at both up close and had the dude at the gun store go over the differences, basically it's very similar to the 870 except it's made in china, where the 870 is made in the US - overall better fit and finish and quality on the 870 but damn close on operation and overall appearance. I'd consider a CD for home defense because I would feel fine in it's operation although for a nominal amount you can get a mossberg.

I am not familiar with Charles Daly shotguns, but I have purchased a Charles Daly Off List Lower Receiver and the tolerances aren't as good as any of my other OLL's, so I would say pass on the Charles Daly.

Not sure about their pumps, but:
              Off Chuck Hawks' website FAQ
              Charles Daly shotguns

Q: I'm considering purchasing a used Charles Daly side-by-side shotgun. The gun seems well balanced, fits well, and looks good. I'm having difficulty finding out about Daly shotguns, what do you think of them?

A: Before WW II, shotguns imported by Charles Daly were made in Germany, and were highly regarded. Starting sometime in the 1950's, shotguns marked with the Charles Daly name and made by Miroku in Japan, the same company that now builds the Browning Citori O/U and S/S shotguns, appeared. I have owned two Miroku made Daly shotguns, an O/U and a S/S, and both were excellent. At some point (I believe in the 1970's, but I am not sure) Charles Daly apparently fell on hard times and lost Miroku as a supplier. For a time, I did not see new Daly shotguns in the marketplace. Charles Daly subsequently found a Spanish gunmaker to build guns for them. Unfortunately, I have no first hand knowledge about these Spanish made Charles Daly shotguns.

A friend of mine purchased a Charles Daly "Defense" pump shotgun from Big 5 on the cheap because he wanted to supplement his already decent arsenal of handguns with a backup pump, and because shotguns are just plain fun to shoot! His Charles Daly pump shotgun quickly started experiencing light primer strikes, while my Benelli SuperNova and my other friend's Rem 870 HD have never come across that problem before. Perhaps his was a lemon, but personally I would not recommend that brand for a defensive shotgun based on this experience.

                  A used 870 or 500 is $250-300. A new one is $350-400. Why bother?

This is just one man's experience, but I bought a new CD Tactical pump SG and it failed to feed properly. Or better yet, it tried to feed too much. It would let more than one shell exit the feed tube at a time, thereby jamming it.

I returned it unfired for a full refund and bought an 870. It's one of my HD guns, so reliability is paramount.

Like my father told me when I started riding motorcycles if you have a five dollar head buy five dollar helmet. I guess the same goes for a self defense weapon.

There is not a big price difference between 870/moss 500 and the Charles Daly. I own both 870 and 590 and can honestly say i would never trade one of them for a CD, especially for self defense.

Also, part availability is one of the great things about remington and mossberg. I know that if i need to replace anything on my shotguns I can find them readily available.
The "best" handgun caliber debate rages on, meanwhile I just keep buying low recoil 00 buck.

Please keep your money in the U.S. Remington or Mossberg. If you're on a budget, save up. The money you save up front will not be worth the frustration you feel when the gun doesn't work as advertised, believe me, I know all about that.

Si, if you are looking for a cheaper reliable Shotgun, get the Mossy 500 when it is on sale at the big five.

Get a mossberg or a Remington. Ive had my Mossberg since 1990 and it still looks brand new and never jammed or had a problem of any kind
Remington is a way better built yeah youre looking at spending a extra 60-100$ but IMO well worth it. if you really want a cheap chotgun Ill sell you my mossberg 500. Ihave three of them
