Tell me about shotguns

At the Walmart where I live they sell boxes of 100 clays for about $10. You can also pick up a hand thrower for about another $7.

I think they are about $0.11 or $0.12 each. Before you buy a shotgun, you need to think about a few things. First and most important is "fit". You are young and growing but, you should find or be able to modify a gun to fit you properly. It makes a lot of difference. If you and your dad can make it to the reloading clinic, we might have time to break some clays too. I don't know how big you are but, I've got a 12g Berretta 391 with a 20g youth stock on it. I bet it would fit you a lot better than most 12g guns straight out of the box. After you get the hang of shooting a 12g, we can move you up to one of my .410s and see just how good you really are. Anyway, before you just go out and buy a cheap shotgun, you should shoot a few first. If you can't make it to my place, call Oak Tree and ask about renting a couple shotguns. I think they have rentals. Also, ask if they have a scholastic program. If you are really interested in learning to trap shoot, finding a good youth program would be great and, if Oak Tree has one, it would be an awesome range to learn at. I met the captain of the Junior USA Shooting team there a few years ago.

It sounds like a youth stock would fit you perfectly. You're right, a 12g has a lot more pwder and shot than a .410. A .410 is considered an experts gun since it is a lot harder to break clays with. Sometimes "moving up" to a different gun doesn't mean moving to a gun of a larger or "more powerful" charge.

Ahh I gotcha you meant how good I am at hitting clays, well I'm down for the challenge.

Oh i really wouldnt say people here are "experienced people who I can trust"... We are just people that may or may not have guns/shotguns and our opinoins and information vary greatly! I'd be willing to bet anything that at least 25% of the people here have never shot a gun or held a real one before in their life! I'd first go to the internet to see what you can find there and even then, id be weary about the info you find on google...

That being said, why not just go out and buy one, they run from as low as 200 bucks at turners/big 5 and come even cheaper used (and for god sakes, make sure when you buy a used gun to get it at a cheaper price then what you can buy for new!!! seriously, people sell their guns like they sell their cars here, they think the firing pins are made out of pure gold or perhaps a friggen diamond!). That's like half the price of a PS3 now adays and 10 year olds have those haha! I'd recommend a mossberg 590 which is a affordable 12gauge which is what I have always wanted and is satisfying to me but to others here, they will tell you it's complete sh*t. If you can, find a few friends to or other people which will let you shoot their guns and just pick one you like the best.

P.S. A 00-buckshot or slug flying out of a 100 dollar shotgun does the same amount of damage to a human as it does comming out of a 5000 dollar gun at distances you will see inside a house. Don't let anyone tell you different. As long as you are happy with your gun, fk everyone else and what they have to say about it!
