Ok flame suit on... I don't get it. why would you pay that much for a shot gun. I gave 279 for my mossberg 500 with 2 barrels. 400 for a S&W 1012 semi auto (used) but I would be willing to bet I could hit anything with the mossberg that I could hit with the S&W. Using a shotgun is more about knowing how to lead a target than a precision firearm. Some look and feel better than others but that is a pile of $ for a shotgun.

First because I can do it.
Second i can also it anything with my s&W up to 100 yards...just the benelli makes bigger holes and is fun in a different way
Third I really do not care about what you can afford or not
Fourth, yep I saw the mossberg...not bad.....and then I saw the BENELLI (YEAAAAA just like christmas!)
Fifth, I use my shotgun the way I want (precision, moving targets, zombies, HD or whatever I feel is good)Comment

I'm with you Rolly!! Went to the store and ended up uncovering a M2 Tactical. Best damn SG I have ever owned. As far as why I spent allot of money on a SG.... because my wife bought it for me as a wedding anniversary gift.

Ok, I guess its just the same thing as any other gun. Some just like the look enough to cough up the extra bucks for it. It is that way for me with pistols I have just never looked at shotguns in that vein but based on the couple of responses I do understand the "I just like the way it looks" kind of thing... I just look at a shotgun about the same way I look at impact gun for removing lug nuts ... its a tool for getting the job done...
Rolly to point #3 I wasn't saying afford or not afford just extra expenditure for ? .... To give an example If I was going to give extra $ for a specific rifle maybe its due to precision, rifling of the barrel, scope it comes with or something along those lines. Just liking the looks is perfectly reasonable too though...
I could have phrased my initial post better
... something more like what features /accessories cause it go be X dollars...

The Benelli M4 is more than looks. It's the fasted cycling semi auto shotgun on the market. Not that we need that, but a fact.

Dont forget the torture test the US goverment put them threw! I have no clue who entered their shotguns but I know the M4 won.

I dont know how it compares but part of my thinking is due to seeing the Bellini 5 shot tactical semi auto on sale at big 5 every other week for 349 bucks. The only super obvious differences to me are the longer magazine, pistol grip and stock.
This is most likely a huge under observation. It sounds like maybe many things on the M4 might be beefed up... I dont know what model the Benelli is that they sell for 349. I guess its kind of like not all 1911's are created equal but I would like to understand why...Comment

It sounds like from the Bellini site that the piston is unique to the M4:
"Its unique Auto Regulating Gas Operated (A.R.G.O.) system developed by Benelli engineers has dual stainless steel, self-cleaning pistons located just ahead of the chamber that operate directly against the bolt assembly."
I cant even find the one big 5 sells on their site. It would seem that it is the supernova... I wish they would list out the differences or features more clearly.Comment

The wait for Kip's titanium tubes (CarrierComp) is currently down to a few weeks since he has made the move to his new production facility. Hands down the best tube available. As far as 922r I've written to and received a response from the BATFE Chief of Firearms Technology Division. As long as you replace 3 of the 13 specific parts that they consider the Benelli to be comprised of you'll be legal.
U.S. made full length mag tube (like CarrierComp)
U.S. made mag follower (like Brownells)
U.S made forend (Surefire M80 or KZ)
and you'll be good to go. When Mesa tactical comes out with their reduced L.O.P. pistol grip stock in a few months it will provide more option as far as what parts to replace.(you could keep your OEM forend grips)
