After about six months hiatus from the site, my desire for a S12 has brought me drooling back.

One question: In your personal opinion (directed at anybody) is there an advantage to having the pistol grip over the standard stock besides it's awesome badass looks? I'm kind of one to leave things stock out of a desire to keep things simple and I kind of like the not-so-AK looks of the standard stock.

    Time to start saving.

    Thanks!

      Why convert?

Some CA-legal S-12s, including mine (page 2), are posted here in the shotgun gallery, and lots more in the galleries at saiga-12.com.

To the OP: Im going to tell you what every other S-12 owner would, just get one, shoot it, and figure out what you want to do with it later.
$550 range is a great deal on these guns, or even $900 range for one already converted from Peach state, atlantic, etc...

WTF, I thought these were banned in Cali. Did something happen when I wasn't paying attention?

Nope, just someone made a workable maglock for them so that we can get a hold of them in this state.

Ergonomically it just feels and handles soo much better in my opinion. It can become so much more compact. I think they are easier to shoot with a pistol grip. Anyways those appear to be the main advantages to me. Also when you have it with the standard stock, THATS NOT how it was originally built, so your actually returning it to the original configuration. If you think about it, Izhmash is the one whom converted it so that USA can have authentic russian rifles..

Thanks for the info and links guys, that's just what I was looking for

To the OP: If I had the money I'd get one right now, and so should you!

Unlike rifles, as a shotgun the Saiga 12 must come into CA with a maglock on it -- converted or not doesn't matter.

I bought mine from peach state guns which is a vendor here at calguns. Contact Adam and he will take care of you.
