    Thinking on a Saiga 12

Hey, all! I went to Crossroads in Ontario this weekend, and had a great time. One of my most productive conversations was with a gentleman working at the Cold War Shooters table.

I told him I wanted a Saiga shotgun, but I couldn't get the ergonomics to work for me. He started telling me about the pistol grip modifications and so on, and I just fell in love with the gun! What a neat shotgun! I want one NOW in the worst way.

So, I'd like to put a forward vertical grip on it when I buy one. Any way to make that happen? What other mods would I do? Resources, sources, advice?

In CA, a magazine lock is required on a Saiga-12 no matter what configuration it is in.

Adding a pistol grip or forward vertical grip or 6+ round magazine to a Saiga-12, requires you to comply with Federal 922r.

In CA, you can not have a collapsable/folding stock and a pistol grip or forward vertical grip on a Saiga-12.

i would recommend a converted one. the prices has dropped for them converted. you can get converted ones from peach state or atlantic firearms. if you really want a crazy looking one, you can have henderson defense convert one for you with g3 sights and all.

Dont think, just buy one. They are sooo much fun. If you buy one in original configuration, you can just have it converted by PRK in fresno, Henderson Defense, and or Cadiz gun works, Cadiz is the authorized warranty repair center, so when they convert, they also make sure it doesnt have any problems or repairs needed. Just remember, ALL Saiga12's need a maglock of some sort and if you do the conversion with a pistol grip, you cannot have a folding or collapsable stock. You can put a folding or collapsable stock on it BUT you have to have the stock permanently pinnned so it doesnt collapse or fold. Here is a pic of mine, i am very proud of my Saiga and as you can see, i have a MOE collapsable stock but it is fixed in that position and I have a raddlock style maglock. Also, some may disagree but if you have a maglock, and a fixed stock, you CAN have a vertical forward grip, the pistol grip and vfg count as 1 evil feature and not 2.

Converted ones are a lot of fun...

Go talk to Tromix (out of state) or PRK Arms(fresno) to get the best conversions...

They are about 10% more expensive then the cheapy conversions but soooo worth it. They do little extra things like making sure the edges are not sharp...

I had mine done by PRK I'll post some photos when I get a chance to take some.

              EDIT: photos are here: http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/s...d.php?t=235417

I kept walking by the booth and finally picked up the last one. I walked away 3 times and finally just bought it. Now I gotta get all the upgrades. Damn kid with red hair and braces sold me when he said saiga filed BK and not sure when they are getting anymore and of course I believed him. But I am soo glad I got it now I gotta wait the 10 days.
Does anyone know if I could put on a tapco pistol stock, forward vertical grip, 10 round fixed mag (radlock) and choke tube and still be CA legal.
                    Sorry for thread jacking.

As long as the stock is fixed, you'll be legal with that configuration. The rear and forward grips count as one feature.

Izmash did NOT file for bankruptcy. Apparently, it was a related firm that sought to push them into insolvancy.

mario - thank you for the mentioning/endorsement.

hlcarbine - there was a russian creditor that wanted thier money back out of Izmash before they had seen a certain profit, and the russian govt. told them to F off. there is no bankruptcy

as far as vertical front grips, I can and will ONLY endorse CHAOS rails and front grips, as they are both made of GOOD aluminum, and are truely a mil-spec level of part for these shotguns.

Negative. Fixed means exactly that, not collapsible, not folding. You can pin, weld, glue, etc. to make your folding or collapsible stock fixed.
