    Replace the forend with this:

    http://www.midwayusa.com/viewProduct...tNumber=734544 $60

Then use any rail mounted flashlight. It works on my 20" 590A1.

There is no cheap way to mount a regular flashlight on your 590A1 except to buy a surefire for that model, even if you can find a cheapy light or mount , the light bulb will not withstand the heavy recoil of your shotgun. I have seen a lot of these in shotgun classes I do attend and they all go dead just a few round of firing.

I plan to buy a 590A1 Mariner very soon but question the necessity or practicality of a gun mounted light. If for HD, the perps would already be within your home with (presumably) lights out. Unless you guess right to the BG's proximity to yourself, doesn't a light instead become a beacon where to shoot at you? I imagine a tangent relationship to yourself and the BG, where you point isn't where he/they are.

It really depends on the lighting conditions and your (night) vision. I didn't think I needed a light until I heard a bump in the night and came from a bright kitchen/living room in to a dark garage and realised I couldn't see sh*t. In retrospect I should have grabbed a handgun and a flashlight but hindsight is always 20/20. To be honest I didn't really think that someone was really there, just curious to see if there was and play with my new toy.

Boomer, you never and I repeat NEVER shoot in the dark if you are not 100% abosolutely sure who you are shooting. A reliable and shock proof light has two purposed. First, a bright light can temporarily blind the intended target, so there is a possiblilty that he might just give up. Secondly before you pull that messenger of death trigger you will be 101% sure that it's not your 16yr old son who is walking toward you. I will never used a 12ga shotgun as HD if it does not have a reliable light.

Thanks for the lecture and I'll agree to the limit of each situation. For me, anyone in my home during the night is either an invited guest or an intruder. No 16 year old or other scenario applies. Still, you suggest sweeping the area with a momentary blinding pin light, while that perp seizes the moment and shoots at the light origin. Not from personal experience (thankfully), but the sound of racking a round seems a greater deterrent than a mounted lamp.

TacStar makes a side saddle mount. It's aluminum and clamps into one hole of the shell holder. You give up one round on your side saddle, but it gets you a light, and mounted away from the muzzle so less potential for damage.

Maybe all the more reason to mount the likght waaay out by the business end.

I'm definitely not a tactical expert so my prior comments were intended to be thoughtful rather than contrary. Even so, your reply seems "on target" with that stock mounted TacStar shown in post #10 possibly a guiding beacon to the BG where to direct fire.

The two rounds closest to the stock are facing the wrong way. Brass up.

I'm not really a fan of railed fore-ends on a shotgun. They're just too much tacticoolness... but if they work for you, the Mako one is pretty decent quality.

Otherwise, pony up for the Surefire. LA Police Gear had them on sale at a pretty hefty discount, I think that has expired now but they still have free shipping and 10% off.
