mossberg 500a

i just pick up my 1st shotgun .A mossberg 500a it also came with a pistol grip.
i have shot 870's before in buttstock and pistol grip setup . the kick from those was not bad at all. i took my mossberg out to the range with a pistol grip on and the dang thing kick like a bronco. it was so hard that we only shot 25rnds.
is it just me or the pistol grip on mossberg are just for door busting .im going to head out to the range with the buttstock on and see how that feels or you guys think its going to feel almost the same ... i would like to know what i can do to make it less on the recoil .with the pistol grip on . but still using the same ammo like all the other 12g shot guns and info would be nice

Could it be the ammo you are shooting? Shooting some 3" magnum 00 would be a fun ride in your pistol grip mossy

If you are shooting cheap walmart $20 per box of 100 bird shot, it should not be kicking too bad at all.

i went to the range yesterday, let my friend shot my mossberg with a pistol grip stock. I loaded 00buck. it was his first time. After the first shot he took a few step back. It was very funny.

try a knoxx stock; you could probally cut off the rear end if you wanted just the pistol grip and it will make it very very easy on you!

i was using the red box at wal mart for 22 bucks

I fired both #8 birdshot and low-recoil Federal 00buck from mine, worst I got was when my stock smacked into my bicep after slipping off my shoulder (my fault). Otherwise there was only a little pain, this is a Persuader model with a factory buttpad. You can try a limbsaver, a cheap option.

you were able to get 25rd through it with just a pistol grip?? youre more of a man than i... i got about 5 through mine, and decided it wasnt worth the pain. put the monte carlo stock back on.

for me PG only has its place, but NOT for your typical shotgun owner. put a conventional stock on it.

I found a big difference between my Mossberg 500a and the Remington 870 I was used to. For starters, the Remington receiver is heavier and the Mossy is lighter, either alloy or aluminum (forget which). That changed the sense of "point-ability" for me, being more used to the 870.

I didn't get rid of the Mossberg, though, just got used to it. I've had it now for almost 20 yrs. I have purchased "managed recoil" buckshot at BassPro shops but haven't had the chance to shoot that yet, being as nobody has broken into my house and attacked me over the years...

I also don't have the pistol grip. That always looked too punishing to me....

yeah . the next day i was unable to grip my 1911. but im planing to put the but tstock on and see how that works

I put an aftermarket adjustable stock on mine. That pistol grip looks cool, but accuracy and comfort suffers.
Now I love it!
So comfortable, so controllable, so much better.

I/you/anybody could easily shoot over 100 shells of what ever with my 590+knoxx stock at the hip. It really is laughable at how little recoil you get with the knoxx recoil system. You should find someone and try it for yourself because the difference between stock and this is night and day.

Just a friendly reminder not to try to use the sights on your pistol grip only shotguns, they tend to fly back and hit you in the mouth/face and that's no fun...

Try the limbsaver on top of a knoxx stock, kicks like a .223; perhaps less...
