I run a t-1 micro on my Benelli M4 and it works wonderful when using slugs at distances over 50 yards.

I knew an old guy who couldn't see too well but, he loved duck hunting. He used to hunt with an old red dot mounted on his 500. He did real well with it.

        Thanks
I have the 511 on my Saiga 12, and can get 4-6 MOA with slugs.

I've seen a lot of people, myself included, miss close targets with shotguns because they didn't aim good enough.
          I agree with this.

I own a Mossy 590 for HD. I have patterened it with 3 types of 00 Buck. All Low Recoil (Tactical), all shot at 10 yds, Remington, Fiocchi & Federal.

          Remington RL12BK00 - 3.5 inch pattern
          Fiocchi 12LE00BK - 5.5 inch pattern
          Federal LE133 00 - 1.2 inch pattern (Flite Control)
I also took some Estate 7.5 Birdshot with me. The pattern was bigger than the target.

I use the Remington mostly, because I have a bunch of it. A 3.5 inch pattern at 30ft tells me I DO have to aim, and it would be easy to miss.

The only shot that had a broad pattern was birdshot. IMHO, unless you are literally face to face with the Bad Guy, birdshot will only make him/her mad.

Unless you are hunting with your Mossy, at distances far longer than HD, forget the scope. Maybe a night sight in place of the bead, but that's it.

People's eyes respond faster to a glowing red dot than they do the steel sights on a gun.

I have been looking at one myself, but was more interested in the Tritium/Fiber Optic version RMR.....15 year life on the tritium and no switch to remember to turn on/off. The Micro has good battery life, but I'd prefer not to worry about remembering it...

If a red dot you have to have, the micro Aimpoint or a Burris Fast Fire would be okay. I like the Fast Fire because it's tiny and was designed first to be used on handguns so they'll take a good amount of recoil.

For my money the most I'd go is a ghost ring and some type of fiber optic or fiber optic / tritium combo up front. Guns you intend to fight with should be kept as simple as possible

the battery powered RMR and other doctor style red dots don't have on/off switches. At least the ones i've seen. You can just cover them up and when in the dark it saves the battery power because they automatically adjust to the ambient light. So no switch to worry about.

One of the overlooked tools for home defense are lights. Not talking about the ubiquitous tactical light mounted on a gun, but spotlights which the homeowner can control at will. A good spot in the hallway and at each entrance door aimed at the path an intruder would take can blind them while you remain in the dark accessing the threat. There are cheap wireless remote controls so a person can turn the spots on from anywhere in the house.

I run a Docter Red Dot Sight 3.5 MOA Gen 4 Red Dot Scope on my 590 and love it.
Shoot clays with bird-shot and shoot 00 buck and slugs without problems.
The small size is practically weightless and not a bulky item on top of weapon.
                      Red dot on a shotgun...yep!

Learn how to shoot it first w/o all the fancy gimmicks. Just like an AR, M-14, M-1, etc, learn to shoot with the irons (bead and comb) first.
