    Benelli NOVA

Looking towards buying a Benelli Nova from Big 5. The purpose for this shotgun will be hunting/skeet.

    Are they any good?

Are there any better deals outside for a similar shotgun, or even the same rather than Big 5?

    Thanks for all the advice.

The Big 5 Benelli NOVA, according to the sales guy I talked to is only a 5 shot (4+1) and it is an 18.5" barrel. Are the 18" incher's good other for HD?

Does Big 5 sells the WIN 870? I know they don't display these models on their online website.

Big 5 sells the Remington 870...generally in a longer barreled "bird gun" configuration and also a short barreled home defense gun.

On average, the Remington will run about $100 more than your competing model Mossberg, unless you get into some sort of sale or other incentive.

Personally, the $279 dollar deal for the 5+1 Mossberg with both barrels is the best deal out there. You get a great HD combo'd with a longer barrel that you can go shoot clays with.

The Benelli has a polymer reciever (IIRC), just be prepared for that when you see it in person.

Benelli is far superior to an 870. designed around a 3.5 in shell instead of an after thought on the 870 magnum. never had a failer to extract or feed with my benelli have had it happen with both a winchester 1300 and an 870. If you go with an 870 from big 5 I dont think it will even chamber the 3.5 in shells just something to consider when going in there. If you dont ever, ever plan on shooting 3.5s then an 870 would be an ok choice as long as you are willing to put the ammo through it to break it in.

I dunno, I've never been much for guns. I mean, sure, we have the usual gun by the door, another near the TV, one in the kitchen, and another in the bedroom...and several others laying around. For the most part though, we keep our home free of guns. We are peace loving folks.

Woke up this morning, had coffee, and headed to big 5. I kept thinking of the Benelli Nova last night after I stopped by Big 5 yesterday. I spent the entire evening researching and viewing all sorts of videos and reviews on the Benelli Nova and Mossberg Persuader, and oh my goodness, there are tons of information out there on youtube about these two SGs. The REM 870 has lots of reviews also.

If quality, make, fit, and finish were the only category, the Benelli Nova wins hands down over the Moss 500 Persuader--though the Moss 500 looks well built like a battleship, 8-shot, the fit, finish, and make leaves a lot to be desired. Price wise, the Moss 500, wins hands down, only due to the existing sale price of $280 this week, otherwise the MSRP is really $370. The Nova at $400 sale, $420 msrp.

So I run some numbers, and the delta was $120. I was asking myself, is this worth forking over to get the Nova? If the 500 was at half the price of the Nova, then no debate here, I will go for the 500, but since the delta is at 30% differential, I pulled the trigger on the Nova. The only bummer here is the 10 day waiting period...I can't believe our great state is requiring these on these weapons...many years back, anyone can buy and take home an AR-15 or AK-47s right of the counter, same day....uuuurrrgggg..

                              Good choice.
I move slow but I make up for it by shooting poorly.

When I hit the lotto I'm only shooting factory.
