I just sold my last extra one off.

Heads up on the 18.5. GG&G and S & J makes a 2 round tube extention for the 590 that brings the tube even with the barrel.

I had two Mossberg 930 SPX, total garbage, sold it and got tried and true 590A1 9 shot and added Magpul furniture and loved it. The only 870 I would get is the police magnum if you can find it. I got my mossberg from 2AZone at an awesome price.

FYI, my 20" 590A1 holds 8 NOMINALLY -- shells above ~2.37" will only load 7 (ammo too long that I've tried -- Fiocchi 12LE slug, Winchester SuperX Hollow Point Slug, Rio Royal Buck RB129, Monolit32 Slug).

I have not looked at a Remington since they were financially raided and went bankrupt. I don't know about todays quality.


The 870 feels better for a hunting gun with a hunting barrel. 24-28"

The 590A1 is rock solid and is a great self defense gun.

Get one and consider taking a class with it before you start to worry about the mag tube.

Do you want a peep sight, rifle sight or a simple bead sight?

I've owned both, before the boating incident that is.

The 870 has a longer throw and sounds more like a high pitch clicking...The 590 sounds more thud-thud.

The Magpul stock really tames recoil for buck and slug. Love my 590A1.

At ~same shooter skill level, the 590A1 will cycle faster due to a shorter action bar travel.

I was stoked to see Riflegear had the 590 Retrogrades for cheap, but then realized they weren't 590A1's. I really want a 9-shot 590A1 so I can get that heavy barrel, shroud, bayo lug, and ghost rings. OP, you have good taste.
