    Semi-auto with detachable mag

It is illegal in CA to have a semi-auto shotgun with a detachable magazine. It is considered an assault weapon.

Yet I see many websites selling semi-auto shoguns with detachabke mags.

What am I missing here? Thx.

Uh - maybe those websites are only offering them for sale to people in states that don't restrict their sale?

California has made it almost pointless to own a semi-auto shotgun with a detachable magazine. Get a tube magazine fed like the Tavor TS-12

Several sites list them as "CA complaint." No I have not tried to buy one. Just wondering if there is something I am missing, like if the mags are attached with a pin or something.

In Cali the mag has to be fixed. Same premise as a bullet button AR. The VR80 has the rear pull pin release then you can raise the upper and release the magazine. But you cant have a single button detachable mag on a semi auto shotgun

Reloading a mag fed shotgun that is California compliant is slow and super lame. Most people who want a nice defensive or tactical type shotgun in California have gone with the Tavor TS-12, KelTec KSG, Smith & Wesson M&P 12, etc. for this exact reason. The KelTec and the Smith can hold up to 15 F/S or 23 Mini Shells. The Tavor only deals with F/S shells.

To be fair, mag fed shotguns are only practical with 5 shot mags, once you get to the larger ones, they stick out so far, they are stupid and having to have a fixed (but should be removable) magazine is even dumber.

Your legislator/gun grabbers have ruled out owning a cool, practical to use mag fed shotgun in this state.

The CA legal versions are either:
                  A. Modified so that they are no longer semi-auto and are considered a straight pull bolt-action shotgun.
                  B. Modified so that it operates using a fixed magazine that can not be removed without disassembling the firearm's action or that is permanently attached in the firearm's magazine well.

CA legal AK style shotguns are typically modified to meet option A.

                    That makes it clear. Thanks!

Reading this post reminds me of how sad i am that my Vepr12 is now a straight pull bolt action shotgun. It used to be so fun to shoot semi-auto.

Have you considered adding a Tavor TS-12 to your safe? You can still have a pretty high capacity semi auto tactical shotgun, just not mag fed.

Absolutely, I have a Tavor X95 in FDE in jail now. I'll likely get the TS-12 next. It's a great option, but the VEPR12 was special lol.

Yeah, but Gav Boy and Bonta put on their Mary Poppins style Nanny unforms and tell you what you can and cannot have.

So semi auto shotgun with tube ok but not with magazine? Like say an m2 clone that takes detachable mags? No pistol grip or collapsable stock....
