No thought whatsoever when you suggest I haven't thought through the consequences or might use bad judgement before taking a shot at somebody while you provide no specifics as to what the threat is or no threat at all.
You should know as well as I do that being prepared has nothing to do w/doing something dumb that gets you locked up.
I've got a March High Master 4.5-28X52 riflescope on one of my HK rifles, which has got nothing to do w/me shooting somebody 300 yards away.
If a threat is far enough away, I pack my family into my car and leave, or, into a saferoom in my house and call the cops.
We have urban Coyotes around here, someone has been attacked, if I'm in a position to do something about it, and if God forbid it happens again, and I can safely take a shot if it's from a distance, I may consider it not to save me but somebody else.
You must have watched the news, someone shows up behind my house/down my street and starts shooting people, YES, I'll use what I have to try to stop them EVEN if it's from a distance.
If somebody homeless shows up in a tent on the boundary of my property I call the cops.
But I'll answer your question anyway, I've given this a hell of a lot of thought and several decades before you asked.
