    Hollowpoint Slugs 4 HD

I've got Fed Flite Control low recoil 1 buck loaded in my 870 pumps for up close inside/around the house.

I own the property behind my house with the property line around and a little beyond that @ around 75-85 yards away which is too far for my buck, so I've had most of my Vepr 12 mags loaded up with 1350 fps slugs.

I'll keep those same rounds in several V12 mags but I'm going w/another type of slug loaded into the 5 round mags actually loaded on the V12's so they're ready to go while they're in my table/concealed gun chest.

The idea is the V12's fit in the gun chest loaded up w/5 round mags, w/8 or 10 round mags loaded up at the ready.

These new rounds are essentially big hollowpoints, aren't going to over penetrate, and I can reach out to 100 yards which works covering my back property, while using the same round in close if things transition that way.

The petals on these slugs seem to spread out evely and hold together, even in the hunk of pork they shot in the video.

They're expensive, but they'll work for behind my house.

Soft Heart: OK, you have stumbled into an area that I have some knowledge in.

First those slugs are very cool looking, but they are over kill big time, and you aren't going to hit anything at 100 yards with them unless you have a Rifled Barrel on your 870.

There are a zillion different slugs out there and many have proven very accurate out well past 100 yards and from the right kind of gun they are accurate at 300 yards. http://www.litfld.com/

I would recommend you look at Brenneke or Lightfield for loaded ammo.

If you are loading your own ammo then I can assist you with about 20 different projectiles that will perform well in your smooth bore.

We have slugs that we cast at home that literally blow up much the same way as your Copper Slug does and leave devastating Wound Channels that nothing lives thru.

Also BPI sells Brenneke Style slugs that perform well in both Smooth and Rifled Barrels that are Reasonably priced and very easy to load.

Come on over to Castboolits.com and have a look.

"First those slugs are very cool looking, but they are over kill big time, and you aren't going to hit anything at 100 yards with them unless you have a Rifled Barrel on your 870."....

      Don't give me your opinion as if it's a statement of fact that I can't hit anything w/these @ 100 yards w/my SMOOTHBORE 870's.

I've ALREADY shot these and out of my unrifled barrels and I DID HIT SOMETHING, @ 100 yards, these are fairly accurate up to 100 yards out of my unrifled barrels.

When I shot these, I know for a fact you were nowhere around, so don't tell me how they did.

Try giving other folks besides you credit for having common sense. If I shot these @ 100 yards without hitting anything I wouldn't be trusting/using these for behind my house.

Use a rifle for that kind of distance.

When you made those 100 yard shots with your smooth bore shotgun were you at a range type setting, or were you woken up in the middle of the night in your PJs forced to grab your gun and start clearing your home, house line and property with multiple moving targets?

I've got 2 Heckler & Koch MR762A1 rifles. Inside the house I'll reach for my 870's loaded up w/flite control buck.

Whatever I reach for and at whatever distance is on me, but that's not the point or the issue, it's whether these are accurate out of a smooth bore and they are.

Again common sense is anybody/everybody is going to test ammo they've never shot before at the range before they consider it for clearing a house.

I've pulled my guns twice on human beings, one of those incidents involved an attemped break in of my home by 2 convicted felons and that didn't involve a rifle or a shotgun, but a 357, because that's what I had on me.

i've actually gone through this; I don't walk around my house every minute of the day w/either a shotgun or a rifle, but I do have a 357 which is my "walking around the house gun"/washing the car gun/take out the trash gun/bar-b-que gun/answer the door gun, it stays on me when I'm home which is the hedge against being in some other part of the house.

The above set up works for me, because I'm still here typing this after the attempted home invasion.

What's on topic is the accuracy of these slugs, and for me they're accurate.

I found both Foster and Brenneke slugs can play well @100 yds.

It took me lots of T&E to find factory loads that work reasonably well in my shotguns. There's a but load of variables that can affect performance when considering the shotguns specs too.

Doing your own testing will show you what works. That's the only way I ever do it. Regardless of firearm type/caliber.

have you had any warping issues leaving 12ga rounds loaded in your mags? ive heard stories about that happening... what kind of mags are you using? have any of the Csspecs metal mags?
if you have a rifled barrel for your 870, maybe give Hornady SST Slugs a go...kinda pricy buy at 2100fps and sub 2" groups at 100 yards, they will do you very well

I would look at 00 buck for indoors...

Different mag or shell carrier for slugs

The advantage of OO is multiple impacts... many organs report damage to the brain... overwhelms the central nervous system

Of OO inside and take time to find a rifle for outdoors...

I worried about that right after I got my Vepr 12's 6 years ago w/their detachable mags. I don't believe that to be a problem loading my Vepr 12's w/the way slug rounds are made, w/hard round plastic behind the round metal slugs themselves so there's nothing to mash/deform, at least that's been my experience.

I've stayed w/OEM Vepr 12 mags. The five round mags matched up w/each gun were perfect out of the box, I wouldn't trust mags you've ordered from somewhere else, so when the 8 and 10 rounders show up, you've got to run ammo through them making sure the gun gets along w/the mag and doesn't jam, that they don't get stuck and refuse to come out, or are so loose they pop out when you fire the gun.

Some folks have a nasty habit of selling off their problems, and I had to return a couple of mags that were just trash.

Expensive mags, and worth it if they haven't been mistreated.

I run buck out of my 870's and slugs through the V12's for 6 yrs using six 10 round mags, five 8 round mags, and two five round mags which I use to fit my Vepr's into my table/hidden gun chest cruiser ready.

I number my mags, and my # five 8 rd. mag sticks (a little) every once in while pulling out of the gun, so it's the last one I reach for.

Deformation in these mags is just not a concern for me anymore loading slugs in my V12's.

OK pretty obvious you didn't appreciate my comments on your shooting. Fine.

I went and watched the Taofledermaus video (one I hadn't seen)and I have to say I was impressed with the performance of those slugs. They open really well! A hit anywhere on a man would be devastating.

You should also note that Breanna never fired those slugs any father than 25 yards.

If you look at the picture in Post #8 on this page you will see the slug I was talking about next to the copper slug.. It is called "Twister" and the mould is made in Russia. https://youtu.be/VrDMTwFjsR0

It doesn't count if your ammo only produces an 18" group at 100 yards. And from a smooth bore 870 that would be a good group. Slug accuracy deteriorates rapidly after about 60 yards Now I have friends on Castboolits that have 870's with Rifled Barrels with scopes on them that consistently get groups of <2-3" at 100 yards. That is more than usable, I have hit steel man sized targets at 100 yards many times with My Smooth Bore Mossberg's. But I have also missed them more than I hit them. Now with a rifled barrel it is the other way around. Plus that I am shooting offhand in the middle of a 3 gun stage where I have been running between stages, and I'm 72 too boot.

Does your gun have Rifle Sights on the Barrel or a Scope Mounted?

Show us some pics of your gun and some targets you shot at 50 and 100 yards. Inside 50 yards you could surely hit someone somewhere, and with those slugs a hit anywhere is going to be devastating. However at $5.15 each I don't see anyone shooting very many of these. (currently not in stock)

Here's one of mine shot at 50 yards with open sights from My A5 with Hastings Rifled Barrel and my Non Toxic Slugs.
