Would I be wrong to cut this down?

Does anyone wanna help me out and find me a winchester 37 stock? I will spend up to $30. It doesn't have to be pretty just good enough for this project. I found a replacement stock online for $50 and that's a little more than what I would wanna spend. Or does anyone have any tips on making a stock for a noob? Well not really a stock but an old school pistol grip? I measured and it would have to be 6" to keep it legal.
