Would I be wrong to cut this down?

    Hey,
I have a winchester 37 that has been cut down by the PO to 18.5 barrel. I am thinking about cutting the stock down and shaping it into a pistol grip. It will be light and handy that way. I just don't know if I should or not, the stock is actually pretty nice and the shotgun is in good condition too. Here is a picture of it. It is of course the shotgun in the middle.

The cut would go after the design on the stock. It would make it 26.5 in. Should I do it? Or should I find another shotgun that's messed up and go hacking on that instead?

Down the line, I would want to get a trust and make a couple of sbs.

If it's in good condition I wouldn't butcher it like that.

Find a beat up stock for it and chop that up. Put the original away.

Shotguns do not spray everywhere (shot expanision is about 1" per yard). They should be aimed like a rifle. If this is for selfdefense weapon, you really should shoot it as a shoulder fired weapon.

Then I guess you don't get the point. I'm doing this for the fun of it. But whatever, I'm taking the advice of the other people since the stock is nice to leave it be. I'm working on getting an old 12ga to cut up.

I think people are suggesting to just get a beater stock for it and cut that one up. That way you can swap back and forth from the shoulder fired to the hack job one and dont have to spend all the $$ on another shotgun. Unless of course you just want to add to the collection.

I always thought the mossber 500 JIC shotgun would make a fun-gun shotgun. the camo version seems like it would be right up your alley my friend.

Eh not really. If I wanted something like that I would keep my mossberg 500 and add the pistol grip to that. C&R shotguns are more of my flavor. I like the old school look and wear on the shotguns.

Well if it's for fun rather than self defense application that is a whole different story. I'd be inclined to buy an aftermarket pistol grip than cut up the one you have. Sounds like you are leaning this way. In my early 20s I shot 12 gauges with a pistol grip using 3" magnum shells (was with a bunch of guy friends and I was just a lemming). It was fun at the time but it hurt and my hand was sore for a few days. A number of the ranges won't let you shoot it this way so you may wanna check with them before you go. Let us know how it goes.

I can't find an extra winchester 37 stock. I found a stock/receiver but I just need the stock and the guy isn't going to split it up. Also the cost is $75 so I rather just apply that to a new old beat up shotgun. I'm trying to get one here on calguns but the guy doesn't want to ship to a non c&r holder so $75 to add the transfer fee isn't worth it.

i knew a guy (dumb guy) that did that sicne it was a cheap single shot and chopped right through the bolt then i asked him did he comply with the 26 inc oal federal requirement

and it was like 24 inches so he had to get a new stock

also single shot shotguns haver terrible recoil you will miss the butt more than a san fransiscan in idaho

I shoot clays with a pistol grip. It just takes practice. BTW you dont have to exactly hip-fire a pistol grip.
