Finding yourself in the "stupid" camp

So a bunch of us went shooting out at hodge road -- a church group. I had a pistol grip shotgun with a red dot. Bad move! It slammed me in the face. I thought I was strong enough to control the recoil. So now I'm just another stupid old man. For redemption I'm moving to a laser sighting system and keeping that sucker away from my face!

Pistol only shotguns are to be used in 3 scenarios

    1) breaching locks and then slug away while you transition to a different gun

    2) Rap videos

    3) movies

Picture hunting dove- you need those 4 points of contact with a long gun...

Pistol Grip only and dove hunting would have the best hunter starve
Rule 1- ALL GUNS ARE ALWAYS LOADED

Rule 2 -NEVER LET THE MUZZLE COVER ANYTHING YOU ARE NOT PREPARED TO DESTROY (including your hands and legs)

Rule 3 -KEEP YOUR FINGER OFF THE TRIGGER UNTIL YOUR SIGHTS ARE ON THE TARGET

Rule 4 -BE SURE OF YOUR TARGET AND WHAT IS BEYOND IT

I'm not a fan of using the pistol grip, but try some LE rounds. They have significantly less "oomph" that should help you control it better.

The problem was not the stock.

You didn't have your cheek weld down on the gun. This is what causes the gun to smack you in the chops.

I have plenty of Priors with this problem, and once I figured it out for myself and integrated it into my mounting of the gun, I can shoot just about any shotgun and not get popped. It usually only takes one shot to remember what I didn't do right if it happens.

Whether you have a pistol grip or conventional style stock you still need to be hauling the gun into your shoulder pocket tightly as well..

I saw a great way to find your Shoulder Pocket the other day. You stick your fingers into your Arm Pit then you close your thumb down and it invariably goes directly into your Shoulder Pocket. Works great :

I would suggest moving to a actual stock over the pistol grip only. I have seen more people f themselves up using pistol grip (no shoulder stock) style shotguns than anything else.

I think the reason he didnt get a good cheek weld was because there was no stock to weld to his cheek, jsut a pistol grip.
