New Mossber 590 variant: the 590S

Setup to handle mini shells out of the box:

Mix and match shells with no changes. Probably not a bad option for folks that want/need to shoot low recoil defensive loads.

That’s cool. I like that they went this route and appreciate that you don’t need to alter the firearm at all to make it work when alternating shell length.

Curious... the product page shows the 20 inch without the mount, but the TFBTv video showing that model being fired shows the mount. ( 1m18s )

I guess one of the graphic designers screwed up?

Seems is the new trend.... Designed (from the ground up) to 'cycle a mix' of 1.75", 2.75", and 3" shells, without adapter or modification.

I want to know what they did inside the action exactly, I couldn’t really tell from the product video or the tfb presser shoot either.

…and the follow up question is: why are these changes limited to a few new models and not all 500/590s? Increased cost/price? Will this eventually make it to all models?

Why indeed? Yes, make it on all models! Dang, just when I thought I had ENOUGH shotguns....

Although my Winchesters can already do this, and could when they were made, like 30-40 years ago.

Cool. Hopefully they come out with a semi-auto soon that can do the same.

Over a decade ago, a Euro firearm manufacturer showed off, at the (I forgot the year) Internationale Waffen Ausstellung trade show, a pre-production 12Gauge pump-action shotgun made specifically for less than 2" 12Gauge shells. What was interesting was it having less weight and having a shorter overall length compared to traditional shotguns due to the receiver being shorter, since it could only use less than 2" shells.

It didn't go anywhere due to lack of interest and the manufacturer folded up.

Some of us were using Remington 1100's to shoot the shorties back in the '90's. Worked fine. Maybe they weren't supposed to feed/function, but it worked.
There are some people that it's just not worth engaging.

I like this gun, but I wonder if the new parts are Retrofittable to earlier guns.

One of the sticky points on these guns is the Elevator rubbing on the sides of he bolt and/or the inside of the receiver. It takes lots of trial and error and tweaking to get them to run right, and if this new part would eliminate that problem, then that would be a big step forward.
