Only a few hours left, but unless the price goes way ($1225 now) up toward closing, this could be a good deal and worth some "maintenance" at Coles. Doesn't look worn, just dirty and some scars in the wood. Already set up for a tall guy. New pad in order.

Not really an expensive repair. It's all there and not structural. I'm guessing relieve it a bit and inject some epoxy. Stock guys can do amazing work with limited effort when it's all there. Could even do a whole stock set and Cole's tune-up and be within OP's budget. IMO it was priced into it in the $1250 range. Ended up going in the $1800 range though.

That (receiver) finish was only available for a couple years and considered by many to be the best finish Beretta ever offered. I'm a bit biased maybe as I have 2 of 'em (a "sporting" and a "trap").


Though I'm not a fan of porting, it's not a big deal either way to me. Just more to keep clean.

First off congratulations to your son and his shooting skills. That's awesome!
You might try calling (visiting would be MUCH better) Pacific Sporting Arms in Azusa, if for nothing else but an education. They are extremely knowledgeable and friendly with a lot of nice shotguns to shoulder (I get that your son won't be there). They also usually have a decent used gun selection.
At minimum, this will give you a line on approximate cost and what you're buying for that cost.
