+1 for Duracoat. I'd buy a home kit and do it yourself. A 870 Express is too inexpensive to spend a bunch of cash refinishing.

Got my Eezox in the mail today. Lubed one of my 870s so far.

Gotta say, this stuff is pretty Impressive. But very expensive tho.

Did a complete disassembly: trigger assy, bolt assy, barrel, buttstock, forend.

Did my prelimary cleaning with Gunscrubber inside and out. Blew dry with a air compressor, applied Eezox inside and out, including barrel and mag tube.

Let sit for 15 minutes and wiped dry.

        EEZOX is the best.

This is only one of many tests I've seen. I tell others but they wont' get it.

They want to use Break Free.

Break Free is Flammable, EEZOX is not.

EEZOX can go to lower temps, where Break Free will freeze.

EEZOX is synthetic, Break Free is Dino based petroleum.

Test of best rust-proofing products for corrosion protection, anti-rust, tool and gun storage. Breakfree, Break-Free CLP, Corrosion-X, Corrosion X, Eexoz, FP-10, FP10, Sheath, Mobil 1, Militech, Rem-Oil, Rig, Grease, Cosmoline, Slip 2000, Tetra tested. Salt spray tests on rust preventatives. Also dessicants, goldenrod, Vapor, Bore-Store silicon bags for storage. 6mm BR Benchrest precision shooting. Load Data, Message Boards, Dies, gunsmiths. Reloading, shooting, hunting, and varminting.

I happen to like the Matte black finish on the 870 Express'. I can really rough up my 870 super mag and If it gets scratched or something, I wont get upset because its a budget finish. And it adds some character to it to it. If I bought the Wingmaster, which I was seriously considering. I would get upset if I scratched up that nice finish. I'm not to worried about rust, I'll just keep it oiled up with some Rem Oil.

I don't think I would ever consider parkerizing my 870 super mag. I think I would just buy the 870 wingmaster super mag.

my 870 express tactical has started rusting pretty quickly and it's pretty non-humid here in socal O.o
I was surprised. I'm guessing I didn't put enough rem oil on the exterior? How do you guys apply the rem oil? Before I sprayed a little on a rag and wiped the gun down. I'm guessing this was my flaw so today I just sprayed remoil all over the thing in a light coat and didn't wipe it down. Was that correct?

If you don't want it to rust. Either duracoat it or use Alumihide II. You'll never have to worry about rust again. Have it parked first if you want an extreamely durable finish. Practically waterproof.

                Another vote for Eezox.

I swear by this product (Eezox) on my Remington 870 Express. Just spray, wait, and wipe; and it prevents rust like magic.

                I highly recommend it.

                Regards,

How often do you have to apply the Eezox?

Do NOT store guns in foam hardcases
well I guess that's one thing i've been doing wrong.......

time to buy a new softcase.

took my 870 out shooting 3 months ago. didnt bother doing a thorough cleaning just a quick wipe down of all the dirt.

took it out last week and there was rust where my Sweaty Cheeks touched the receiver.
                    So much for Eezox.

wiping down my 870 with Rem Oil after each outing now.
Besides the Rusting & chamber issue i guess the 870 is still OK with all it's FLAWS.

hey Akjunkie, do you spray the rem oil directly on and wipe it down? or do you just spray it on and let it sit?
I'm getting rust like within 1 week, it's pretty freaky and I haven't owned this thing for more than a month.....

How are you storing it? That was my mistake.

right now, just by my bed. I'm in West LA Socal so it's not that humid here. I'm storing it in that Plano single hard-case w/ foam on the inside.

And this is why your gun is rusting. You should never store a gun in a foamed hard case, the foam retains moisture and does not breathe at all. You might consider spending a couple bucks for a silicone impregnated gun sock as it would work a lot better.

I actually ended up buying this case last night, you think that'll do it?

was getting sick of not having a shoulder strap/more pockets on my hardcase anyway.

Do you guys know if this principle applies to pistols as well? seems odd to me since most pistols i've seen come in foam hardcases.

I had a bit of surface rust on mine, not bad just like a dust, but I use RemOil on my finishes just because its not too goopey and dosent leave a film. let it soak in to the pores of the metal. but the only thing that is going to ward off rust is oil once in awhile and paint.
