    Mossberg 930

    Hi
New to the forum. Just picked up a Mossberg 930 SPX. I installed a Mesa tactical Side Saddle. Took it to the range today, it did not feed on single round. I probably fires 50 rounds or so and I had to manually charge the weapon. I called mossberg and they said it was the side saddle causing the malfunctions. apparently no enoug gas goes thru the receiver. The screws used to insatll the side saddle interfer with the Flow of gas. Also several rounds fell thru the bottom on the tube. I am not sure if this was caused by the saddle. I have removed the side saddle but have not had the opportunity to try it out.

    Mossberg 930

Don't the screws go in the same holes that hold the trigger group in place? The screws are to tight.Loosen them just a bit and enjoy.

The reasons for non function seem totally bogus.

As stated, the other pins already go through the receiver. If they mean extra weight was added, that's BS because that affects inertia guns more, like Benelli's.

I'm assuming this is gas operated. I've seen sights on askew.

Seems like these guns are hit and miss.

Did you clean/oil it before you took it out?

          Hi,
Yes I have cleaned and oiled the weapon. I called Mossberg twice and spoke to to different people. Both said the same thing, I will hopefully try it tomorrow and I will advise. Does seem a little Bogus, But I am willing to give it a shot.

I think the Mossy is a gas/inertia gun - not pure gas. That is what I was told.

I would try it bone stock first.

Most semi-auto shotgun like the Benelli or Beretta will only feed on a full load ammo, no managed or low recoil type. I use Hornady TAP "00" buckshot on my Benelli and not a single malfunction.

I have used full power slugs and OO buck. still the same problem, I do not like the "managed recoil" or low recoil rounds

check that your barrel isn't missing the gas plug (not sure if this is the right term) I have a 930 with
2 barrels, I forgot the plug when I first swapped barrel and the gun would not cycle itself.

Hope this makes sense, if not PM me and I'll take some pictures for you this evening.

There are several sidesaddles where overtightening the screws will squeeze the receiver and affect the action, but I thought that the Mesa ones specifically addressed this issue. Are you sure you installed it correctly? Also, do you feel abnormal resistance when hand-cycling the bolt?

Just re-read your post. I don't know what the heck Mossberg is talking about. The gas that operates the 930's action does not flow through the receiver, much less through the sidesaddle crossbolts, which, as someone else said, simply replace the factory crosspins and are of the same diameter.

Can you further explain the problem of the shells dropping out the bottom?

I will load the tube with 6 rounds then chamber a round. Once the weapons fires a round will fall from the tube area. I am not sure if the pin holding the ropund in is not engaged properly or if the recoil from the weapon shakes a round loose. either way this should not be happening.
