Because Mossbergs only have two sizes of Magazines. 5 and 7 round capacity. see this thread http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/s....php?t=1651983

These last two guns both have 18.5" bbls so they only get the shorter magazine. The first has a 20" bbl. and it has the 7 round magazine.

Look at the pictures and see how the barrels are mounted that should answer your question.

Well after shooting it today I was 6" high at 25 yards with the rear sight all the way down, with Balls and Lee Slugs.

And with the same setting it was 3 feet high at 50 yards and 6 feet high at 100 yards !

Conclusion: The barrel is bent! So I've got to find another barrel.

NO, the sights are mounted to the rib correctly and the rear one is down as far as it will go.

I thought that the choke tube was in cockeyed as the threads have a tight spot in them. But looking at the tube from the muzzle it appears to have the same amount of bore all the way around indicating that the threads are in the right place, and not cocked. It was done on a Lathe so it should be concentric, or a lest close. The Choke Tube would have to be cocked .010-.015+ to shoot that far off.

This is a bit of a mystery but I will figure it out!

I'm sure you thought of this, but would you want to work with a taller front sight?
Do you have a lathe? Turn up a spud to fit each end of the barrel and put it between centers, see how much it runs out? I knew a guy years ago that straightened a lot of tubular stuff. The rib would make it a little tricky.

Not worth it to me for one extra Round that I can port load pretty fast if needed.

With 6 in the gun, a 6 round side saddle on the side and 2 extra 6 round Velcro side saddles in my pocket I have 24 rounds to deal with whatever should come my way.

That 590 barrel and magazine is worth close to as much as I originally paid for this gun and more than I paid for my House gun.

bought an 18" barrel and 8 round tube. Moved the mag tube lug forward and moded an 8 round mag tube to fit, also had forcing cone work done to it. The Mossberg ATP 8 was the precursor to the 590

I am currently building a Barrel Bending Jig so I can tweak my barrel back down to where it shoots to POA rather than into the sky.

I'll show that when I get done with it.

Didn't know about the ATP8 looks alot like my 20" gun but with Wood Furniture. I have a nice wooden stock and forearm off this latest gun if anyone is interested..
