I had a chance to shoot a KSG yesterday.....

What a weird little gun. Expensive, very short and awkward to shoot, and the action is rough - if you don't work it hard it won't pick up the next round out of the magazine. The new owner (my neighbor) is absolutely thrilled with it, but I thought it a clunky piece of plastic crap. I can see a lot of things going wrong when operating it in a high stress situation. For HD, I'd much rather have any old reliable Winchester/Remington/Mossberg riot gun with an extended tube.

I wasn't impressed, but maybe I'm missing something.

I witnessed a KSG demo by a KSG employee for my local county sheriff and some folks from his department.

      Many misfires and misfeeds.

Embarrassing to be nice about it. Imagine how things would go to hell in a high stress situation.

Felt sorry for the KT guy, but it's imo the "shotgun" is a POS, and not a small POS.

Some people lack the physical strength to work them properly. The action does smooth up after it is broken in. I have had none of the aforementioned problems with mine after initial break in. A VFG does help though.

+100. Never a problem with my KSG. Added a Magpul VFG and Vortex Viper. Shuck it hard and she is reliable as any other pump action SG I've fired. Added a light and it is my go to HD gun. Nice and compact to cut corners or pass doorways without telegraphing. And nothing beats 00B for two-legged varmints.

Funny you should mention the double 00 Buck. I shot a few rounds of that through the gun and recoil is close to being unmanageable. I don't know what my neighbor was using, maybe it would be better with light recoil buckshot. The mini slugs were easy to shoot and relatively soft recoil though.

I had one that went back to the factory three times kept having problems extractor would slip off of spent shell causing a catastrophic mechanical failure

I had to use a diamond brush hon to polish the chamber and went through all of the internals with 600 then 2000 grit sandpaper

Also had to purchase a new extractor and extractor spring since they would not mail me one to fix the problem

After that it ran like a top but I never trusted it after seeing how hard it goes down on a failure to extract or double feed

Owners had better practice transition side arm

The KSG feels about 10x heavier duty than something like a SU-16. Hahahahah.

If you buy a KSG, be sure to mount a good weapons light on, so you can find your way in the dark to where you keep your other shotgun that works and doesn't jam.

I love how keltek innovates and tries new things

Once you take a 4-5 day shotgun class, you will realize that the KSG appeals to a segment of people who don’t seriously train nor plan to fight with the KSG

I’ll take a used mossberg 500 over the DP12 or the KSG

Back in 2013, during a week-long combat shotgun class, two policemen brought KSG’s, and by the end of day 1, both KSG’s were in the trash. Too many problems to list.
They ended up using their agency’s 14” 870’s. Good thing they brought those along for the ride.
If someone were to give me one of those for free, I’d sell it to a democrat.

Too true. I love that Keltec innovates. I just wish they would pay more attention to making their innovations reliable. I only shot a KSG once. Although it felt chunky, clunky and unbalanced to me, if I thought it was reliable enough for HD I would be all over it. So much firepower in such a short package! But if it goes click when you need a boom, the other 23 rounds you thought you had kinda don't matter.

Agreed. This made me chuckle. I love my ksg for a range toy. But for HD I stick to the 870.
