    MOSSBERG - GOLD RESERVE

Any one has experience with the new o/u came out from Mossberg, Gold Reserve series by any chance?

I'm considering a new o/u for trap & skeet. Been lurking around the Berretta Silver Pigeon and Browning 725 Pro-Sport.

Then, I see the new Gold Reserve and they are quite tempting. Options and price point is very attracting.

Somebody post that quote by Versace.

If you got the cash, go Browning or Beretta.

More like credit card. After spending around $3.5K on it, I won't be able to party for a while.

Not to mention, putting off the future rifle build much further.

But, I get your point. I don't know about the functionality but they do make some difference.

Your first instinct is correct, get a beretta or a browning. Test drive both to see which fits you better.

          Hmmmm....

It seems that I don't really have much of Mossberg fans around me, including this forum.

It's amazing how many people are against it even with the price range and options.

Guess I will go with the Browning.

The mossberg is probably a nice and very serviceable gun. I was looking at one of the silvers the other day and it seemed reasonable.

B guns aren't a garuntee of perfection, but the odds are strongly in your favor. And they hold resale value better, in case you want to go with something else later.

If I shot 3-4x a year I'd go with mossberg. If I shot weekly I'd go with a b gun. If the mossberg fit me better than the b guns I'd take it regardless.

That's the reason I asked if any one have experience with it.

I am very curious of its maneuverability, balance, recoil, and so on.

I’m not anti Mossberg. I love and own multiple 500s. But for a quality O/U, you’ll never beat the long term value of a Browning. You don’t need to spend 3k on one if you are willing to buy used.

If you want a pretty gun that you intend to only shoot once on a while, buy the Mossberg. If you want a warhorse that you can put 10s of thousands of shells through with minimal maintenance and eventually give to your grandkids, get a Browning.

Thanks for the input. I will probably be putting through around 200 shells a month. Such a mind boggling number. Not a number for a workhorse, but not a safe queen number either.

I had a mossberg silver reserve 2 in 20 gauge, pointed and shot really well had good scores with it, It had a hard trigger but got used to it!! Look into a C.Z Redhead Premier around a 1000.00 bucs good looking and good shooting guns.

I'm looking for 12 gauge with 30 inches or longer barrels in 3 inch chambering. That should cover the trap shooting and occasional sport clays & skeets.

Shooting a better engineered gun (think a "B" gun) can make the whole experience more enjoyable.

For example, a friend bought an ATI O/U in .410. He shot it for a few weeks and enjoyed the heck out of it.
One day one of the guys handed him a Beretta O/U in .410 to shoot.
On the spot after less than one round of skeet he decided he was going to sell the ATI and buy a Beretta, which he did. The Beretta just felt better.

Think about buying a car, where you can buy something basic (think no A/C and an AM radio) that gets you from point A to point B. Or you get something with A/C and a FM Stereo, so you can enjoy the ride a little more.

Sometimes, when the focus is primarily on price, you may not realize what you are missing.

I am not against Mossberg and I do think they have stepped up their game quite a bit in the last few years.

We all have budgets that we have to live within and the Mossberg will probably work well for you.

Personally, I think the additioal dollars spent on a used "B" gun are worth it.

I have a Browning. But there are less expensive guns out there that will prove to be reliable for years.

Stay within your budget of course. Maybe don’t give up on that rifle you want to build
