Went into the local CAL Ranch store to look for ammo or maybe some primers. I always take a quick look at the shotguns just in case. I almost missed it, it was so small. A second glance and there it was:



$399, almost pre-covid price. They're generally $600 and up on gunbroker. The store got 2 12 gauges and 2 30 gauges in last night. This morning someone bought the 2 12 gauges, and as I walked up to the counter, someone was completing the sale for a 20. I don't have any 20's and I'd rather have a 12 but beggars can't be choosers. I snagged the 20.

They only had one kind of buckshot, Aguila BB. I doubt any other store in town has any 20 gauge buckshot at all. After 1/6 it's been Covid Panic, the Sequel (guess it should be called Biden Panic) and the cupboards are bare all over town. BB buck is only .18, is that effective when it counts?

The store also had Blackout, which I need, but policy now is ONE box of ammo per day. If I wanted the buckshot, that's my one box. Now I have to go back tomorrow for 20 rounds of Blackout.

A home invader is not going to like a 20-gauge any more than a 12-gauge, rest assured. The standard recommendation seems to be 00 Buckshot, which is what ours is loaded with, but I've heard good things about 0 Buckshot and #4 Buckshot as well. The 20-gauge in a shorter shotgun like that is going to be much better for actual range practice, which is what one should do with any firearm. With the 20-gauge, you'll actually somewhat enjoy practicing with that 590.

There's a little adapter made in Texas that snaps into the loading port that makes it easy to run those little 12 ga Aguila mini shells. You can stuff 9 mini shells into the magazine and the recoil is far less.

Not ideal, but will suffice in many circumstances. Run it until you can get some Buck.

20g buck is generally #3 Buck as it stacks properly in 20g.

You buy Primed Hulls, some powder, wads and whatever shot you want, and a Roll Crimp Tool that you will run with a cordless drill. Everything is available and in stock right now!

BPI also has all the instructions you could ever want to load virtually any Shotgun Shell known to man.

This ain't that hard and we wouldn't have the endure the endless posts from all the "Non Loaders" wanting to know where the last 3 boxes of ammunition are located in CA?

Guys: Necessity is the Mother of Invention, And if you haven't noticed, "Necessity" is right now.

Jump off a cliff here, and learn to do something new. Next time there is an ammo shortage it won't affect you in any way.

Perhaps, but right now unprepared reloaders are having a hard time finding primers. I have a feeling primed hulls will soon be in short supply as well.
