Take the 79 south to where the 371 meets. Just after the 371 and to the right is a dirt road called "high point truck trail", take that path for a while and you'll find some spots on BLM, make sure you're far enough in.

How far down and how rough is the trail? Can a regular car make it down if driven slowly or would a truck/SUV be required?

I've been out there a few times, fairly rough on 19" rims and low profile tires but doable if you go real slow.

I also would like to know of a legal place within a 45 minute drive from downtown San Diego where we are allowed to fire weapons. Any other suggestions from members in the SD area?

What's the closest place to the Burbank/Glendale area? Also, no 4 wheel drive, but a 2 wheel drive small pick-up that I don't worry about too much

Orosco Ridge in Ramona is my favorite outdoor spot in central San Diego county; there's about 10 well spaced out shooting locations, 200yd shots are easily setup; the area is really messy and in need of a cleanup, and it can get busy on the weekends so get there early to secure a spot, or go during the week when its always wide open.

I just ordered some maps from the BLM, im going to search out a few places east of the bay area. In the San Andreas and Placerville area.

Hemet Lake area. Chekc out the area for where others shoot, easy enough to find, look for shells!

Back when I was in high school, smack in the middle of Sunnyvale CA suburbia, we did have it all. I had a friend who was, and still is, very much into firearms. He had a nice collection then, I can only imagine it's far better now.

At any rate we'd take his .410 shotgun, remove the barrel, stuff the two parts down our pants and walk over to one of the last orchard fields where we'd reassemble it and hunt pigeons and rabbits. When cops rolled by we'd ditch the .410.

A few blocks away there was a grocery store "Whitefront," we never stuck around to see the reactions, but I'm sure some customers were a bit surprised when they removed a carton of ice cream and found some poor pigeon staring back at them.

Anyway they eventually bulldozed the orchard (it's now a community center/park) and we lost our field. So we changed our routine. No longer limited to a transportable .410 we moved up to his 12 ga. Winchester 1912 and moved into his back yard. There we'd patiently wait for some seagull to fly over, take the shot, stash the knuckle duster, and go off to classes at Fremont High (back when they were still the Indians). Only did this a few times, and having more luck then smarts we weren't caught.

Ahhh, good times! Kids, please don't do this now. We were punks then, times have changed, and similar actions today will earn you a vacation at Club Gitmo.
