    Mossberg Rolling Thunder Not Legal?

Well Bud's gunshop cancelled my order, saying the Rolling Thunder wasn't California legal. Can anyone explain to me why this shotgun is not California legal?
Description: Mossberg 500 Special Purpose Rolling Thunder pump shotgun features 3" chamber, heat shield, barrel stabilizer, pistol grip only and bead sight

nothing illegal about it that I see.

Cruiser style "shotguns" are legal in CA, and muzzle attachments are not a controlled item on shotguns, unless it is ruled a grenade launcher (like the Yugo M59/66).

    Sounds like FUD to me.

Do you want an AOW or C&R SBS/SBR in CA?

To the OP (spastic), are you at least 21 years old?

I ask because I seem to remember reading that pistol-grip only shotguns are not allowed to be sold to persons under 21. I think it's an ATF thing and not a CA law. IIRC, the ATF definition of a "shotgun" is a weapon that can be fired from the shoulder (I'm paraphrasing here). And since this Mossberg does not have a shoulder stock, it does not fit the ATF definition.

Can you ask Buds to cite how they deemed it not to be Cali-compliant? It would be funny if they are thinking that it's a handgun. Of course, it's not gonna show up on the handgun roster.

I'm 30 years old so this is pure Bud FUD.
Too bad really, because the shotgun would been wholesome, California legal fun.

Its legal from what i can tell. Its a long gun and meets requirements...sounds like fud.

Haha, damn that thing looks brutal. I bet shooting slugs out of that thing for an afternoon feels great on your hands the next day.

Basically on a pump shotgun, the only legal requirements are that it's over 26" in overall length. If that muzzle break is permanent, I'd say that you're good to go. Semi-auto is a different story.

See if you can buy that entire shotgun, or barrel alone from someone else. Aside from the threaded shotgun barrel with attachment, it doesn't seem any different from the Mossberg 500 I bought from Big 5. I added a pistol grip from ATI just like the one pictured.

21 is a potential issue. My friend tried to buy a roadblocker, but nobody involved realized that the gun constituted a "must be 21 to buy" item.

But the weapon itself isn't illegal here.

Here's what I dug up from the ATF website. This is from August 1998 FFL Newsletter (pg. 2):

Why do you think it isn't it legal here? AFAIK, it's 100% California legal!

Mossberg lists one for the Remington 870 in their catalog. Part number is #93456 ( length is 18.5", cylinder bore, matte blue finish. )
